About the Role

The Team:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced DBA with a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) mindset to join the Enterprise Solutions SRE team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, latency, performance, efficiency, and stability of our critical infrastructure, which supports a range of data platforms, applications, and services. You will collaborate closely with multiple stakeholders including development teams to implement and maintain reliable and scalable systems while adhering to industry best practices and security standards. 

Responsibilities and Impact:

  • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive observabilitysolutions to track the health and performance of our systems. 

  • Analyze observability data to identify potential issues and proactively troubleshoot problems before they impact users. 

  • Develop and implement alerts and notifications for critical events to ensure timelyintervention. 

  • Collaborate with development teams to design and implement solutions that enhance system resilience and reduce downtime. 

  • Analyze performance metrics to identify and resolve latency bottlenecks in our infrastructure. 

  • Implement performance optimization techniques and tools to improve the overall responsiveness of our systems. 

  • Work with development teams to ensure that new features and code changes do not introduce performance regressions. 

  • Develop and maintain metrics dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs) for our critical systems. 

  • Identify performance trends and anomalies that may indicate potential issues or areas for improvement. 

  • Recommend and implement performance optimization strategies to enhance the overall efficiency of our systems. 

  • Optimize resource utilization and minimize unnecessary expenditure on IT infrastructure. 

  • Working closely with engineering, product and operations teams to help define the strategic direction for our database estate across all ES products

  • Defining and implementing IaC and config management mechanisms within the DBA team

  • Building and enhancing our DBA skillset & capabilities across products with a view to future technology implementations

  • Manage cloud database changes through the change request process and provide status reports to the relevant stakeholders.

  • Provide timely status updates to relevant stakeholders.

  • Performance and availability strategy with SOP for cloud database systems

  • Empowerment of the team for proactive and corrective actions to improve performance and availability.

  • Ensure service levels meet requirements. Propose, and implement, action plans when required.

  • Support cloud service continuity measures including backup & restore procedures and disaster recovery plans, to ensure continuous operation of the business.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement proactive measures where required.

  • Provide cloud database systems related technical advice to customers or project teams for manageable issues.

  • Follow cloud security standards or best practices to avoid security breaches and reduce system vulnerability. Keep up to date on current security.

  • Provide input to security audits (as required) and implement the necessaryactions.

  • Using best practice. Plan, design, install, test and implement cloud database systems in accordance with specifications and SLAs.

  • Provide database troubleshooting, performance tuning and consultancy sessions.

Compensation/Benefits Information : (This section is only applicable to US candidates)

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $107,000 to $211,400. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.

What We're Looking For:

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership experience in challenging service environments

  • Strategic thinker with a view to future technologies

  • Pragmatic approach to problem solving

  • Experience working in financial services or similar is highly desirable

  • Experienced in working within AWS infrastructure. 3yrs+ Proficient in Database observability and performance tuning

  • To be able to spec, size, deploy and test clusters of RDS/Aurora Databases

  • Familiarity with security and performance configuration for Sql, PostgreSQL,

  • Knowledge and experience in implementing backup and restore strategies

  • Knowledge of setting up standalone DB in EC2.

  • Knowledge of NoSQL is desirable

  • Providing inputs to engineering to assist developers in understanding how RDBMS systems work

  • Impact analysis e.g. the effect of scaling of services

  • Comfortable with observability tooling

  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code is desirable
