RTX’s Sr. Industrial Systems Engineering Manager for Intelligence and Space business unit is seeking a new member for the talented Industrial Engineers team that offers direct support to Operations. The team focuses on what we call the “Fab Four Pillars”. These are Capacity/Throughput analysis, leading Lean Manufacturing efforts, Layouts and Labor Standards. The Industrial Systems Engineering Team is a pivotal group that is connected to all aspects of the manufacturing process. We are respected as the “process experts” that is rooted in safety, ethics and compliance. We understand our customers’ focus quality, productivity and improving our culture. Work is conducted both individually as well as teaming up with multiple subject matter experts to optimize our operations.

What you will do:

Responsibilities (Core and Day to Day):

• Leads review of data from operations, documenting product and information flow in current operations using tools including value stream maps and process flow diagrams; develops recommendations for process improvements (including automation); and leads the implementation of the recommendations.

• Perform process observations and time studies to increase operation efficiency. Implement labor standards to ensure efficiency implementation.

• Leads larger factory layout initiatives for optimal process flow and material levels, including kanban/ replenishment levels, and material presentation.

• Leads Lean events and mentors cross-functional teams on use of Lean principles & tools and implement standard work to sustain improvements.

• Identifies needs for manufacturing simulation models; leads data collection efforts to support model creation. Creates alternate scenarios based on model modifications.

• Uses system reports to investigate work measurement variances; performs cost/benefit analysis and trade-off studies for methods and productivity improvements.

• Builds capacity models (equipment and manpower), including gathering of critical data; makes recommendations based on the model outputs.

• Applies statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and production standards.

• Ensures Human Factors Engineering disciplines are utilized in production setup, configuration and in new product designs.

• Facilitate, with input, improved manufacturability and testability of products by analyzing historical performance and makes recommendations to Design the teams.

• Leads IE tasks for new proposals; coordinates data collection based on existing standards and historical data.

• Expectations for my team include collaboration and driving completion of assigned tasks that eliminate nonvalue added work and ensuring that our system makes best use of workers, machines, material, information and energy.

Travel Requirement:

There may be opportunities for domestic travel to offer support to other sites as well as benchmark best practices. Travel is estimated at less than 10%.

Shift Information:

1st Shift but may need to occasionally work off-shift hours for time studies.

What you will learn:

You will learn how to leverage the strength of our team and systems to perform analysis as well as work with various levels of our Operations team to improve our processes. RTX offers multiple paid certifications on Lean Tools such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and internal best practices that can be applied to projects promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications you must have:

Education and Experience

• Typically requires a degree in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering, or other STEM degree.

• You must have a minimum of 5 years of manufacturing/factory experience.

• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Prefer

• Degreed Industrial Engineer with manufacturing experience

• Excellent interpersonal and Facilitation skills. Ideal candidate will be able to work well with floor operators, peers, and management.

• Proficient in Lean Principles, Six Sigma and Theory of Constraints methodologies and tools

• Proficient in Process Simulations

• AutoCAD, Visio, SQL, Power BI and Process Simulation exposure

• Self-motivated change agent has a bias for action and a sense of urgency; demonstrates accountability by holding self and others accountable to the team charter.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
