AT&T Director - Federal Income Tax Research & Planning in Dallas, Texas

About the Role: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Tax to lead federal income tax planning initiatives. The ideal candidate will be responsible for directing federal income tax planning for our company and its affiliates, aiming to achieve the most advantageous tax results from both a cash tax and tax expense perspective. This role involves recommending strategies to minimize income tax liabilities within an acceptable range of risk and supporting various corporate functions with tax expertise.

Key Responsibilities: As the Director - Tax, you will spearhead our efforts to optimize federal income tax outcomes for us and our affiliates, navigating through the complexities of tax laws and regulations to secure the most advantageous results. Your expertise will drive strategies to minimize income tax liabilities, support significant corporate transactions, and ensure tax compliance within the company.

  • Direct and oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive federal income tax strategies to optimize tax results.

  • Provide expert tax advice and support to Corporate Development on the federal income tax aspects of acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, and other business and tax initiatives.

  • Collaborate with Legal, Accounting, Treasury, and other Finance groups to provide essential tax support.

  • Ensure proper, timely, and aligned tax compliance, tax provisions, and audit settlements through support of income tax compliance, tax accounting, and income tax audits.

  • Analyze existing and enacted income tax legislation, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and communicating necessary practices to appropriate workgroups within the company.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Advanced degree (e.g., JD, LLM, MBA) preferred.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax planning and management, preferably within a large corporation or consulting firm.

  • Deep understanding of federal income tax laws and regulations.

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful tax strategies.

  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing a tax team.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with senior management.
