Topgolf Architectural Design Manager in Dallas Office, Texas
Overview
The design manager will support the Construction department by overseeing and developing architectural design initiatives. The Manager will collaborate with multiple Topgolf departments including real estate, construction, operations, technology innovation, partnerships, marketing and others to develop operationally efficient building programs and aesthetic design products that reflect the company vision for delivering the unique Topgolf guest experience.
Responsibilities
Acting as Topgolf’s (Owner’s) representative in all aspects related to the architectural design process, the manager will have the responsibility to direct and manage third-party consultants and partners including architects, engineers, interior designers, and contractors to bring the building program and vision to life in the form of innovative and exciting “bricks and mortar” venues. The manager will need to collaborate and support various subject matter experts and stakeholders to accomplish this. In addition to guiding the effort towards developing new Topgolf venues and interior designs, the manager will also provide design direction to the growing number of capital improvements required at existing venues, VE efforts, global design changes, stakeholder support (eg partnerships, marketing, retail, operations, etc) and assess detailed operational and design questions including building systems and specifications
The manager will work closely with the Topgolf Real Estate, Construction, and Fianance teams to develop project budgets and to understand proposed revenue models and forecast development costs to ensure that new designs can meet model parameters.
The manager may also be called on to support international franchise partners in their development of Topgolf venues, including the review of their design with cross functional subject matter experts.
The manager will need to be able to operate in the flexible gray space of Topgolf design standards while maintaining key brand elements and provide quality assurance and control (QA/QC). This includes creating and maintaining design standards, guidelines, and documentation.
The manager will wear many ‘hats’ and be expected to not only spearhead the various design and project architect related efforts, but also create presentation materials and provide occasional drawing/drafting support
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, required
Master’s Degree in Architecture, preferred
4+ years Overall experience in the design field either at an architectural firm or client side. The manager should have experience proposing and developing architectural designs from conceptual design through construction documentation and administration: including creating floor plans, area calculations, diagrams, 3d renderings, mass models and detailed drawings sets. They should have experience selecting various products and specifications and have some working knowledge of project schedules, building codes, ADA, typical jurisdictional requirements etc
2+ years Experience working within the hospitality, entertainment, retail, restaurant, mixeduse project types
2+ years Cross-functional collaboration with various subject matter experts and stakeholders
2+ years Experience leading and coordinating various consultant groups
1+ years Experience initiating RFP processes, selecting, and working with specialty consultants is a plus (eg, for kitchen equipment, artist selection, retail fixtures, lighting, landscape etc).
Professional licensure is a plus but not required.
Software: Bluebeam, InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, AutoCAD.
Ability to read, interpret, modify, and quickly mark-up drawing sets, CAD files, schedules, gannt charts, budgets, renderings, and conceptual presentations.
Ability to create a variety of high quality professional presentations, analyses, diagrams, and documents in a variety of formats including PowerPoint, InDesign, Word, etc.
The manager should have some drawing, composition and sketching skills in order to propose floor plan changes, pitch interior and exterior design concepts, and modify renderings. They should be able to read and understand various types of material and product specifications, as well as documents related to the entitlements process.
The manager should have strong verbal and written communication skills. They should be comfortable presenting to leadership groups, receiving sometimes conflicting feedback from stakeholders, providing direction to consultants, supporting and advising peers, and fostering collaborating with all of the above
The manager will need strong note-taking and organizational skills in order to quickly capture, document, and share design feedback and direction from a variety of stakeholders, leaders, and consultants.
The manager should be adept at collaboration and reinforcing positive working relationships. They should be able to take initiative, work independently, and be comfortable working in a highly dynamic and changing growth company
Travel up to 15% - Mostly domestic travel to venues under construction and after opening for lessons learned. Occasional international if needed.
