Job Summary and Qualifications

The Medical Lab Technician performs test, inputs patient information and test results into computer, performs computer functions as needed and assist in other duties as directed by laboratory supervisor/manager. The Medical Lab Technician is proficient in one or more of the following disciplines as determined by departmental needs: Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Immunohematology (Blood Bank).

What you will do in this role:

  • Day to Day Operation - Assists in daily operation of the laboratory.

  • Respect/Dignity - Promotes an environment of respect and dignity through positive communication; demonstrating sensitivity to coworkers needs in special/unusual situations; protecting the privacy of coworkers and patients.

  • Competency - Maintains professional and technical competence in the laboratory setting.

  • Technical Knowledge – Maintains technical knowledge and skills in all laboratory sections.

  • New Material/Instrumentation/Testing - Takes responsibility for learning new material, testing, instrumentation, etc. that becomes incorporated into the department.

  • Supplies - Updates supervisor on inventory status as needed. Uses supplies in a cost effective manner.

  • Workflow - Assures timely results are reported in situations of instrumentation failure or personnel shortages by assisting the supervisor in assessing workflow and staffing patterns, as well as coordinating instrument maintenance and repairs to insure minimal down time.

  • Demonstrates NCMC Core Values.

  • Follows all safety rules and assist in maintaining a safe work environment.

  • Performs other work as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Must possess MLT or equivalent certification or be currently eligible to sit for MLT or equivalent certification exam. Certification as MLT (ASCP) or equivalent is required within 180 days of hire

  • Associate Degree

  • No Travel Required

  • 2 years experience required years of experience
