Software Engineering - Media is a role focused on improving our media ecosystem. We collaborate with internal and external engineering teams on building new features, making modifications necessary to existing features and resolving blocking issues in the ecosystem. We may offer source code changes to internal or external projects to improve their usage of features or behaviors on the platform. Description

Description

On the Developer Ecosystem Engineering team, engineers help analyze partners products and recommend technical optimizations and standard methodology to take advantage of our shifting technology space. We host developers for in-person sessions to unblock technical roadblocks and accelerate development. We are a resource for external partners and internal teams for advocating/implementing changes to improve the ecosystem. This is often focused on new, in development technologies. We may transition between multiple platforms as external teams challenges shift, problems arise on iOS or macOS variants of our partners products. We use this as an opportunity to further our own knowledge, tackle a real problem in the ecosystem and feed these learnings back into Apple to further the Ecosystem broadly. The daily role may consist of reverse engineering, debugging, helping other engineering teams prioritize Media relevant work, creating content to help our audiences understand gaps and to drive resolution of those gaps, via our own engineering or otherwise.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/MS, preferably Computer Science or related experience

  • Computer science fundamentals, specifically with operating systems, understanding how parts of a computer fit together to create a platform and experience

  • Programming fundamentals, like pointers and memory management, with languages like C, Objective-C, or C++ Excellent interpersonal skills due to the high level of interaction with internal and external engineering teams & management

  • Knowledge or an interest in learning about the requirements of developers in the Media space, e.g. encode/decode, codec trade offs, HDR, etc

  • Experience in macOS or iOS programming at the application, framework, or audio/video stack a plus

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
