OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Represents the Hospital in financial matters pertaining to obtaining payment on patient accounts
during pre-admission and inpatient phases of the patient's visit. Acts as intermediary with
Admitting, Business Office, patients and family members while the patient is hospitalized.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to demonstrate full knowledge of financial terms (i.e. copay, coinsurance, deductible,
etc.) Ability to interpret insurance benefits, accurately calculate patient’s out of pocket, and
other financial responsibilities.
- Reviews admissions into Hospital after insurance verification to promptly attempt to collect
patient liability balance before discharge on accounts with high patient liability.
- Utilizes the daily census report to review and determines the status of each self-pay
admission. Contacts patient or family member to establish the financial status.
- Analyzes the financial situation and sets up contract terms according to Hospital policies.
Makes sure contract is signed by patient or responsible party.
- Explains to patient or family member what steps they can take to get Financial Assistance.
Helps patients to obtain necessary information regarding medical assistance qualifications
and/or charity guidelines.
- Assists Insurance Verifiers in obtaining any necessary or missing information from the
patient while patient is in-house, such as copy of insurance cards and claims forms.
Cross train and perform all routine registration duties as needed.
Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and
procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions,
unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/ visitor injury-accident to Supervisor/Manager.
Interfaces courteously and effectively with all ancillary departments as needed.
Communicate with Chamberlin Edmonds to determine Medicaid eligibility and
approval/denial status as needed.
- Must follow all HIPAA and Confidentiality requirements at the highest levels of ethical
standards.
- Must be able to identify patient liability and collect on all account types (pre-registered,
Outstanding balances, Flat Fee, etc.) during each patient encounter.
- Assists with completing a Newborn Medicaid Application (DMA550 form) as needed.
REQUIRED:
A. High School Diploma or GED with one (1) year experience in collection, OR B. Associates Degree in Business or related field
Good communication skills.
Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
Must be able to type a minimum of 30 wpm or better.
PREFERRED:
B.S. Degree in Business.
Two (2) years' experience in collections.
CPAR Certification or CFC Certification.
