Amazon is seeking a Data Scientist to uncover insights on customer behavior and how it translates to financial value for content on Prime Video globally. Prime Video is shaping the video entertainment by offering customers a wide catalog of content, including an ever-increasing slate of Amazon Originals. It is an industry leading, high-growth business and a critical driver of Amazon Prime subscriptions, which contribute to customer loyalty and lifetime value.

The Video Content Research (VCR) team uses machine learning, econometrics, and data science to optimize Amazon’s streaming-video catalogue, driving customer engagement and Prime member acquisition. We generate insights to guide Amazon’s digital-video strategy, and we provide direct support to the finance, marketing, and content teams. We use detailed customer behavioral data both on Prime Video (e.g. streaming history) and beyond to both understand the downstream benefits of the streaming service on Amazon as a whole, and make predictions for what value the future slate will provide.

We are looking for a data scientist to build models and carry out analytics as part of the Economic Valuation team within VCR. This team utilizes causal economic methods, together with ML and data engineering, to build out products that estimate the economic value of TV and movies, a highly valued product throughout the org.

Key job responsibilities

  • Translate complex and ambiguous business problem statements into clear, actionable science frameworks, maintaining a high standard throughout execution.

  • Collaborate closely with scientists, engineers, product managers, and finance leaders to deliver impactful projects.

  • Present complex analytical results and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating data into actionable business strategies.

  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends and drive innovation by exploring new technologies, methodologies, and best practices in data science and marketing analytics.

  • Identify metrics that provide causal downstream value to the company, and working with economists to estimate this value.

  • Incorporate various data sources and building models to synthesize various customer behaviors with content, together with financial information, into a coherent value portfolio.

  • Helping build production systems that serve model outputs and support decision making.
