Cuyuna Regional Medical Center * Recovery Room Crosby, MN Nursing Part Time Over, 8-hour Day Shift FTE: .8 FTE (64 hours per pay period) Weekend Requirements: No weekends Posted 06/10/2024 Req # 13223 POSITION SUMMARY The Peri-Operative Education Nurse (RN) is responsible for the surgical, pre-operative operative and anesthesia teaching of all Surgical Services patients. They will perform both direct and indirect patient education. Education will be consistent with AORN standards and the physician and patient needs. The Peri-Operative Education Nurse will provide all patients with efficiency, continuity, safety, and cost containment. The primary focus of this position would involve building and gathering of patient and chart information and educating the patient to the pre-operative activities related to the needs of their particular procedure. Other duties will include, but are not limited to, assisting other departments within regards to patient education, post-operative instructions along with quality improvement initiatives and any other duties as appropriately assigned by the supervisor. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Three (3) plus years experience in direct patient care, treating like patient populations and severity required. Two to three years direct patient care experience in SDS, recovery or related surgical care preferred. License/Certificates: Current Minnesota RN license. American Heart Association BLS certification required within 30 days of hire. Special Skills and Aptitudes: Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Demonstrates mature judgment, self-initiative and strong problem solving skills. Ability to independently organize, systemize and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to interact effectively with physicians, patients and family, staff and other healthcare providers. General computer skills in EMR, Word, Outlook or similar applications and Allscripts. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES RN: Exercises concern for the patient's welfare, maintains knowledge of the patient's condition, administers medication and performs treatment while practicing maintaining high ethical standards. Responsible for the direct and indirect care of residents/patients assigned to her/him under the guidance of the Director of Surgical Services, maintains accurate and complete records of nursing assessments and care, and counsels of the client and family in meeting nursing and related needs. Remains up-to-date on new nursing skills and technology, utilizing the nursing process (observation, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in the delivery of care. Performs duties in accordance with physician's orders, the Medical Center's policies, methods, and techniques, and in coordinating with other departments and Medical Center personnel. Provides leadership and promotes teamwork. When requested, participates in in-service programs, education programs, and orientation of new personnel. Demonstrate Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned. Peri-Operative Education Nurse: Gathers pertinent medical chart documentation, consultant reports, test results and health and vital signs necessary for safe operative care in accordance with departmental policies, practices and high standards of clinical care. Accurately completes required patient health screenings and communicates potentially negative findings to the primary care physician, surgeon and/or Anesthesia provider. Through the pre-operative assessment and education process, collaboratively coordinates patient care with SDS, nursing and surgical scheduler. Provides pre-operative and anesthesia education uniquely tailored to each patient's health needs and level of learning/understanding. Completes timely, accurate and thorough nursing documentation including patient health status, screening and test findings, patient education and associated plans of care. Implements appropriate physician standing order sets including the ord ring of appropriate tests and completion of clinical screening protocols and pathways. Facilitates the scheduling of Anesthesia Consults as directed by the surgeon, primary care and/or Anesthesiologist. Why Cuyuna Regional Medical Center?
