Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Critical Care Unit Assistant-ER in Crosby, Minnesota

POSITION SUMMARY

  • Critical Care Unit Assistants assume responsibility to carry out the clerical activities, coordinate communication and assist with patient care in the Emergency Department. They perform clerical duties to support physicians and nursing staff in the delivery of care and services to the patients in a fast paced environment. Critical Care Unit Assistants maintain medical records for each patient that are complete, readily accessible, and systematically organized. They perform delegated duties of direct care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. They interact with staff, patients and visitors, and others in a manner that facilitates communication and presents an appropriate image of the facility. These functions are essential components in achieving the goals of the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center.

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and Experience:

  • NA/R certification on hire OR completion of an approved nursing assistant training program required within 6 months of hire.

  • License/Certificates:

  • NA/R certification upon hire or within 6 months of hire. American Heart Association BLS required within 30 days of hire.

  • Special Skills and Aptitudes:

    • Must have good audio and visual acuity with excellent listening skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

  • Effective interpersonal relationship skills including good listening, reporting and communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt resources to meet the needs of the situation.

  • Adjusts to stressful situations with confidence and good judgment.

  • Knowledge of and adherence to principles involving procedures, hygienic and safety measure.

  • Capable of following and carrying out verbal and written instructions.

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Facilitate professional and courteous communication between external and internal customers, including staff, providers, visitors, and patients.
  • Establish appropriate priorities for receiving, recording, relaying and acting upon information.

  • Practice and maintain high ethical standards including patient and facility confidentiality.

  • Respond to change productively and handles additional tasks as assigned.

  • Uphold and support established Medical Center mission, goals and policies.

  • Maintain inventory and ordering of supplies and forms.

  • Assist with ADL's and patient care as directed by the RN when NA/R certified.

  • Answer and appropriately respond to patient call lights.

  • Assist with the clerical transfer process for patients, to/from the ED or floor, or to outside facilities.

  • Assist with meeting the needs of families.

  • Assist staff with positing the daily facility call schedules.

  • Understand and correctly operate and care for equipment when directed to do so.

  • Stock supplies, perform routine cleaning of rooms and unit between patients and equipment as required.

  • Demonstrate Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned.
