Union County College Analyst of Institutional Research in Cranford, New Jersey

Union County College is a public comprehensive community college providing quality, affordable, accessible educational programs that serve the greater Union County region. It is the oldest of New Jerseys 19 Associate Degree Colleges, serving both career-minded and transfer-oriented students since 1933. The College enrolls almost 30,000 credit, non-credit and continuing education students and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Many programs lead to the Associate in Arts, Science and Applied Science degrees.

General Description:

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Institutional Research, the Analyst of Institutional Research compiles data and information used in evaluation, institutional effectiveness, and outcomes assessment.

Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supports leadership/administration with internal/external research and analysis of labor- related issues to support program reviews and collective bargaining agreement negotiations.

• Assists the Senior Analyst of Institutional Research in planning, developing, coordinating, and conducting institutional research effectiveness projects.

• Supports preparation of IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System) reports for the institution, i.e., attests to the accuracy of the data reported to the State of New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education and the National Center for Educational Statistics.

• Responds to requests for information from external agencies, e.g., College Board Survey, Middle States Annual Institutional Update, NJ Council of County Colleges, etc.

• Writes standardized computer software reports (e.g., using SPSS output) for the purposes of providing descriptive, multivariate, and univariate statistics.

• Provides data and information used in the development of grant proposals as well as in grant evaluations.

• Recruits, schedules, supervises, and prepares paperwork associated with survey research efforts.

• Assists in the creation and dissemination of the fall and spring Data Books.

• Assists in the academic program review process.

• Prepares data for the Assessment, Planning, and Research office’s web pages.

• Constructs tables and charts for presentations of data in accordance with the American Psychological Association format.

• Prepares in narrative form a written analysis and summary of data or assessment results.

• Maintains effective working relationships with faculty and staff. Also maintains effective working relationships with the statewide IPEDS coordinator, located in the State of New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education.

• Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Institutional Research.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required with course work that emphasizes quantitative research methods.

Experience:

At least two years of research experience (data collection, retrieval, analysis, and reporting), preferably in an institution of higher learning or an equivalent combination of education and work experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

• Some travel required.
