SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting with the accounting and financial reporting process including, but not limited to, making general ledger journal entries, performing reconciliations and gathering data to support financial statement disclosures.
SCOPE OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of the Staff Accountant shall include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
Assists management with accounting for moderately complex transactions, and reports and recommends to financial management any opportunities for improvement in accounting policies and procedures.
Prepares general ledger journal entries and reconciliations for certain moderately complex accounts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Assists with various functions such as tracking of project costs, customer billing, accounts receivable interfaces, fixed asset accounting and certain statutory filings.
Assists management in the preparation, analysis, and distribution of financial statements and supporting data on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Prepares and maintains written memorandum and adequate accounting records for all accounting tasks/processes performed
Works with internal and external auditors in providing support for financial statements or the appropriate operation of internal controls and processes.
All other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. Advanced business degree preferred.
Skills:
Microsoft Office Suite applications – Excel, Word, Outlook is required.
Working knowledge of Lawson accounting application is preferred.
Ability to get along well with others.
Certification: Certified Public Accountant (or eligible to sit for) preferred
Must be willing to board and ride vessels to increase understanding of how this role supports our business.

DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Eyesight: Functional, correctable to 20/20
Hearing: Functional, correctable to normal to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction; Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make the discriminations in sound.
Speech: Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.
Mobility: Unencumbered by physical limitations to perform vessel survey and inspection duties to include: Walking, climbing, crawling, lifting, pulling, reaching, vehicle driving and should be skilled in typing.
HOURS OF WORK
Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am until 5:00pm and may be adjusted with approval by the department supervisor. Some work-related travel and weekend work may be required, subject to company operational requirements. Regular and reliable attendance as well as self-transportation are required.
