Position: Assistant Maintenance Superintendent

Location: Cottonton, AL

The Opportunity:

You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Maintenance department, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment, manage training and safety programs, assisting the Engineering Department in the design, installation, and the startup of new equipment, covering weekend call for the Maintenance team, training foreman, collecting, and analyzing daily operational Key Performance Indicators, and managing personnel issues (manpower, vacations, etc.). Other aspects include outage planning and scheduling, overseeing specific tasks on outages (Line shaft/jackshaft packages, turbine rebuilds, valve tag programs, etc.). Other opportunities include improving SAP functionality (planning efficiency, backlog management, etc.), developing reliability programs and strategies. You will report to the Maintenance Manager.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

  • Be engaged in safety improvements and support and interact with crews to address safety concerns as needed. Participate in crew safety meetings and reduce area exposure risks in the department. This will be a primary focus.

  • Troubleshooting equipment and processes. Understand the equipment operation to aid in the identification of problems, repair, and optimization of the system.

  • Understand the contract, be able to lead a crew, be responsible for the crew\u2019s performance, and fill the shift foreman\u2019s position as needed.

  • Investigate alternative equipment design. Seek alternatives to improve the safety, environmental performance, reliability, production, and improve productivity of the processes.

  • Aid in developing capital and expense budgets for the department.

  • Track, analyze, optimize, and report on Key Performance Indicators for the Maintenance Department. You will do this on an hourly, daily, and monthly basis.

  • Oversee precision alignment programs and ensure the integrity of that initiative (laser training, management, etc.)

  • Develop and maintain training schedules for all crews

  • Manage fire system and insurance inspections

What you need to succeed:

  • At least 5 years maintenance experience

  • Fundamental understanding of paper mill processes affecting Operations and Maintenance operations.

  • Good oral and written communications skills, highly skilled in group communication as well as one to one communication. Ability to determine effective and appropriate means of communication.

  • Skillset in each of the following systems: SAP, Excel, Microsoft Word, Excel
