Job Summary

The Ethnic Studies program in the School of Language, Culture, and Society invites applications for one or more fixed-term, non-tenure-track, full/part-time Instructor positions to teach on a term by term basis for the 2024-2025 academic year. Some of these appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on an annual basis at the discretion of the Director.

Instructors may be needed to teach on campus and Ecampus courses in the following areas: Theories of Race & Ethnicity, Native American Studies, Latino/Chicano Studies, Asian American Studies, or African American Studies.

The mission of the Ethnic Studies program is to provide an academic opportunity of excellence for critical, multidisciplinary investigation of the intersections of race, gender, ethnicity, and sexuality, and of the articulated concerns of the four major racialized minority groups in the United States: Native Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, and Chicanos/Latinos. The program is currently expanding its offerings to include coverage of race and ethnicity in a global context. The Ethnic Studies program is focused in undergraduate education, offering BA or BS degrees. A graduate minor is also offered.

The Ethnic Studies program is part of the School of Language, Culture, and Society, which also includes Anthropology; World Languages and Cultures; and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. The School has approximately 40 majors and 20 minors. The School’s central focus is on global justice with emphases in social and environment justice, food insecurity, and Latino/a studies. This position within the School’s Ethnic Studies Program will help build upon our commitments to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for an increasingly diverse student body.

Key Responsibilities

100% Instruction:

This position will administer and teach undergraduate courses in Ethnic Studies. Hold regular office hours to assist students with coursework and answer questions regarding curriculum.

What You Will Need

Master’s degree in Ethnic Studies or closely related field.

Experience teaching at a university or college level.

Evident commitment to educational equity.

What We Would Like You to Have

PhD degree in Ethnic Studies or related field.

A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
