CORTLAND COUNTY PERSONNEL/CIVIL SERVICE DEPARTMENT60 Central Avenue Cortland, NY 13045 607-753-5076 https://www.cortlandcountyny.gov/263/Personnel-Civil-Service NOTICE OF JOB VACANCY Job Title: Soil & Water Conservation District EngineerThis is a professional position requiring knowledge of engineering theory and principals and the ability to apply this knowledge in evaluating and preparing plans, proposals, reports, designs, specifications and estimates for complex water related engineering projects. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for design, engineering approval and construction oversight of water related conservation projects including stream restoration/stabilization design around municipal and private infrastructure, municipal storm-water management and agricultural best management practice implementation. Other duties may include writing and editing technical sections of watershed management plans, public outreach and education, preparation of progress reports, and coordination and cooperation with involved agencies during project design. This position is afforded a high level of autonomy and considerable latitude to exercise independent judgment and decision making in carrying out assignments. This position works under the general supervision of the Conservation District Manager and works directly with consultants, contractors, and other staff to complete assigned tasks. Supervision and oversight of consultants, contractors and staff may be required. The incumbent will perform all related duties as required. Work Hours: Full Time with benefitsSalary: - $40-50/hour commensurate with experienceLocation: Cortland County Soil & Water DistrictStatus: Competitive, ProvisionalBenefits: Health Insurance, NYS Retirement, Generous Sick and Annual LeaveMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Professional Engineers License for the State of New York; AND (a)Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering AND eight (8) years’ experience in the design and construction of conservation practices, stream restoration practices, or storm water management and erosion and sediment control or related practices; OR (b) Possession of an Associate’s degree in Engineering related field AND ten (10) years’ experience in the design and construction of conservation practices, stream restoration practices, storm water management and erosion and sediment control, or related practices; OR (c)Any equivalent combination of training and experience as described in (a) and (b) above. NOTE:Degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, applicant must provide independent verification of equivalency.
