The incumbent interprets and ensures federal, state and local laws and rules applicable to safety, including but not limited to OSHA, PESH and the Department of Labor, are met. The incumbent also has primary responsibility over the County’s workers’ compensation program as it relates to training and safety concerns and employee training program. The work is performed under the direction of the County Attorney with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment for carrying out the details of the work. Position eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either: (a)Possession of an Associate's degree or higher in construction technology, architecture, engineering technology, business administration or closely related field and two (2) years of experience as a building contractor, building inspector, claims adjustor, staff development administrator, manager or administrator of occupational safety and health program, worker’s compensation program, or similar position responsible for inspecting or investigating for loss or safety; OR(b)Four (4) years’ experience as defined in (a); OR(c)An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).NOTE:Degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If the degree was awarded by an educational institution outside of the United States and its territories, applicant must provide independent verification of equivalency. Failure to obtain NIMS Certification will result in dismissal. 3.Must complete the required courses for a Building Safety Inspector Certification within 18 months of date of appointment or within 18 months of date of first training course, whichever is the shorter.
