In addition to actual assisting in representation, the Associate Assistant Public Defender assists the Public Defender in the investigation, preparation, conduct and appeal in various court and legal proceedings involving petitioners or respondents. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Defender or Chief Assistant Public Defender. Does related work as required.Work Hours: Full Time, 35 hours per week with benefitsSalary: $72,000-$94,058/yr. (Management Compensation Plan)Location: Cortland County Public Defender’s OfficeStatus: Non-Competitive, Probationary (pending jurisdictional classification)Benefits: New York State Retirement System, Low Deductible Health Insurance Plan, Generous Paid Time Off Including 13 Paid Holidays, Tuition Assistance available after one year of employment. Position eligible for Public Service Loan ForgivenessMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a NYS registered or regionally accredited law school with a J.D., LL.B. or LL.M. Degree.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:The incumbent must obtain a license to practice law within one (1) year of the date of permanent appointment.
