PURPOSE
The custodian ensures safe and clean living and working environments for the Islander Housing communities at Texas A&M- Corpus Christi. We are seeking a Custodian whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to, cleaning designated areas assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor by performing the following duties: vacuuming carpet; mopping and cleaning, emptying trash, cleaning swimming pool areas, responding to spills, and a variety of other cleaning needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional Area 1: Sanitation
Percent Effort: 45%
Maintaining the cleanliness of assigned building and the surrounding grounds.
Clear all stairways from debris and maintain cleanliness.
Cleans all surrounding grounds regularly to make the exterior of the building appearance inviting to the residents, guests, and employees.
Maintain/Sanitize volleyball courts and BBQ grill in courtyards and swimming pool areas. This will include sitting benches, chairs, table, etc. (furniture).
Performs general routine custodial duties to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning, sanitizing and supplying restroom facilities.
Wash concrete areas as necessary.
Clean carpets that are spread across common areas on property.
Occasionally clean carpets in occupied spaces.
May operate commercial vacuums, carpet shampooers floor scrubbers, and pool cleaning equipment with training.
Functional Area 2: Outdoor Maintenance/Trash Disposal
Percent Effort: 45%
Performs general outdoor maintenance, trash pickup, pool skimming and cleaning.
Collects and disposes of trash following approved procedures and infection control plans.
Remove trash bin liners in the grounds areas and clear all the debris or waste from the Dumpster.
Trash bins and dumpsters to be disposed of properly and maintained.
Clearing sidewalks and emptying trash while maintain cleanliness of all buildings and surrounding grounds areas of housing property.
Functional Area 3: Administration
Percent Effort: 10%
Adheres to established procedures to provide a safe working environment.
Ordering/Restocking custodial supplies.
Perform and document routine inspections on safety equipment, emergency lighting.
Reports maintenance concerns via work order requests
Seeks out areas requiring cleaning; takes initiative to complete the task.
Contributes to the team; exhibits professionalism with students, fellow employees, and others.
Performs other related duties as requested and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED.
Additional experience may be considered as a substitute for the minimum education requirement: Four (4) years of full-time related experience.
Ability to travel between campus locations on short notice.
Ability to communicate with clear written and verbal messages
Ability to present a professional image
Knowledge of safety equipment usage (e.g. AED, fire extinguishers, etc.), proper cleaning methods, and safety measures essential to the work environment
Ability to work outdoors in temperature extremes, work with high noise levels, and must have the ability to repetitively lift up to 50 lbs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous professional cleaning, maintenance, or grounds experience is preferred
Previous custodial experience in residence life or college housing
SALARY: $13.00 - $14.00/hourly.
$27,040 - $29,120/annually, approximately.
