Additional Retention Pay until 9/30/22: $3.40/hour is included in the hourly rate.
Upon achieving TCOLE Certification as a Licensed Jailer, pay increases to $18.18/hour plus Additional Retention Pay until 9/30/22: $3.64/hour.
SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the Corrections Officer position is to guard, observe and transport inmates. Officer enforces the rules and policies of the facility and insures that the safety and welfare of inmates and staff are safeguarded. This is a trainee position that involves required completion of academy and field training including closely supervised performance of corrections officer duties.
The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following:
Attends Training Academy to become a Certified Jailer.
May, under close supervision, perform Corrections Officer duties, including: Booking, classifying, observing, transferring, transporting and releasing inmates with attention to the health, safety and security of other officers, inmates and the public.
Conducts inspections, shakedowns, inmate searches and makes key checks.
Conducts head counts of inmates.
Completes, checks and processes official papers and documents.
Intervenes and resolves crisis situations such as fights, fires and medical emergencies.
Restrains combative inmates.
Serves or supervises the serving of meals to inmates.
Supervises inmates while they are performing their cleaning duties.
Provides informal counseling to inmates.
Conducts safety inspections and inspections of fire exits.
Assists with the personal needs of inmates, such as telephone calls, mail, laundry, visits and commissary.
Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); eighteen years of age and a citizen of the United States. All successful candidates must consent to a criminal background check and are required to achieve TCOLE certification as a Corrections Officer within twelve months of appointment.
