Job Description
General Purpose:
Assume responsibility for and/or support accounting processes, including those of a complex nature, for a division, group, plant, and/or platform. Serve as a resource to the corporate office, field accounting, colleagues, and other functions within the company by providing guidance and expertise and maintaining and reporting accurate and timely financial information. Apply principles of accounting to perform month-end close tasks, prepare and review financial statements, complete financial data analysis and reporting, perform account reconciliation, and trouble-shoot accounting-related issues. Perform activities related to journal entries, variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, inventory valuation, reconciliation, and sales analysis. Ensure that appropriate controls and compliance processes are followed.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform and/or assist in the completion of the monthly accounting close process and ensure that all journal entries for assigned areas are timely, accurate, and in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Prepare assigned monthly journal entries and account reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner and ensure appropriate supporting documentation for each
Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and various accounting analyses and reports and provide accounting data or other information needed to prepare the company’s internal/external financial information and disclosures
Review and analyze financials, such as month-end income statement and balance sheet, looking for discrepancies and trends; investigate unusual or unexpected trends and implement corrective action
Conduct various financial analyses, such as reviewing balance sheet and income statement accounts for significant, unusual, or unexpected variances (versus forecast, prior year)
Research variances to identify root cause and effectively communicate results of analyses (in verbal or written form) to accounting/finance management
Coordinate and communicate accounting matters with other functions or departments as needed
Support finance teams or other groups as needed with budgeting/forecasting processes and various supporting analysis, as applicable
Support internal and external audits and compliance with the company’s controls and accounting policies
Collect, compile, verify, and analyze financial information and prepare financial reports and accounting statements so that management has accurate and timely information for making financial decisions. These reports may include profit and loss statements, balance sheets, depreciation statements, cash flow, debtor and creditor lists, repayment schedules, regulatory reports and filings
Complete or assist with ad-hoc projects including the implementation of new technology, data analysis requests, and management reporting for multiple levels of management
Lead or participate in cross functional projects or components of large or complex accounting-related projects
Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement within areas of responsibility
Learn, assist, and/or perform member/hauler payment processes

Requirements
Education and Experience:
Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or related curriculum (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
7 to 10 years of progressive accounting, finance, or related experience
Experience with accounting software or applications and Microsoft Office or similar software
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of US GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles)
Strong knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems, specifically Excel
Strong analytical skills including the ability to reconcile problematic accounts with unknown and/or multiple variables
Able to work with superior accuracy and attention to detail
Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Able to work independently on tasks or projects after a brief explanation of the desired results
Able to take ownership for assigned projects and see through to completion
