Guthrie Outpatient Clerk - Laboratory Administration - Per Diem in Corning, New York

Position Summary:

General clerical functions to include (but not limited to): receiving, screening and processing of phone calls and/or patients/visitors. Coordination and filing of records and reports, performs duties involving the operation of equipment necessary in developing x‐ray film, financial or medical necessity checking and review, update of various financial documents or forms, including charge entry and assists in other non‐technical departmental duties as assigned

Various Computer functions including (but not limited to): EPIC, PACS and multiple Microsoft office programs including word, excel, and PowerPoint. Percentage of time spent on each component directly depends on departmental needs.

Education, License & Cert:

High school graduate. Post high school work in the secretarial sciences desirable.

Working knowledge of medical terminology required with a medical terminology course preferred. Proficiency with computer office software including Microsoft Word and excel required. Must possess an abiding commitment to basic ethical and legal principles including familiarity with HIPAA and protected health information. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with all customers in order to interact effectively with employees, patients, medical staff and the public. Competency in keyboarding with the ability to type at minimum 40 wpm.

Experience:

Previous hospital or medical office experience required, preferably in hospital lab/radiology setting.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide patient and family education on specific requirements of procedure and/or test.

a) Effectiveness of education measured by peer input, family verbal feedback and patient satisfaction surveys.

b) Favorable attitudes and motivation toward the procedure/test are evidenced by positive patient satisfaction surveys.

c) Educational methods are adapted to meet patient and family education needs.

  1. Adhere to policies and practices of applicable, entity facilities and Corning Hospital Lab & Radiology Department specific policies while being familiar with and acts according to contents of applicable professional code, employee /handbook, unit Policy & Procedure and hospital policies.

  2. Participate in department meetings while attending meetings and offering ideas/solutions in problem solving situations/activities regarding the program.

  3. Complete assigned tasks or other duties as requested.

Other Duties:

  1. Coordinating the file management processes involved with all modalities within the Radiology Department. This includes but is not limited to scanning, purging, digitizing, importing images, burning CD’s and transporting of films/CDs.

  2. Scheduling of patients within the Radiology and Laboratory Departments including viewing and printing of schedules

  3. Responsible for preparing and distributing all mail and correspondence for outpatient Lab and Radiology Departments.

  4. Maintains daily lab order files, follows up on standing orders, oral requests and received in advance requests and other needs for missing information including diagnosis and/or signatures.

  5. Responsible for daily departmental functions such as faxing, filing, scanning, copying and answering / directing phone calls.

  6. Coordination and filing of records and reports for Radiology and Laboratory Departments.

  7. Works closely with Radiology and Laboratory staff, Pathologist and Radiologists within the departments to maintain work flow.

  8. May be required to work holidays, weekends, and shifts other than those regularly assigned.

The pay range for this position $15.91-$23.81/hour
