OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the VP of Media has two critical mandates: first, they will be accountable for media optimization across all paid media touchpoints for all Dicks Sporting Goods brands (corporate, Golf Galaxy, Vertical Brands); secondly, the role will drive bottom line growth through the expansion of our Retail Media Network.

The VP of Media will bring leading-edge knowledge of the technical platforms, analytics capabilities, and critical partnerships DSG must build to optimize the return on marketing investments across media channels and across the portfolio. In addition, the VP of Media is responsible for ensuring operational excellence between media agencies, internal marketing stakeholders and cross functional leadership. Overall, this work will drive increased customer acquisition, conversion to sale, average spend, brand loyalty, and earnings.

The ideal candidate for this role must possess the perfect mix of art and science in their abilities, instincts, and execution. They must have a gut for great creativity and a mind for strategy, execution, and measurement. In addition, the ideal candidate is a driven self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, critical to the growth of our retail network. They will take a leadership role in building a best-in-class consumer experience through media.

Strategic Leadership

  • Create strategies to profitably acquire new customers through digital advertising, affiliate marketing, display advertising, social media, external partnerships, and other direct marketing programs.

  • Own the company’s in house advertising business end to end. Develop growth plans that align to Sr. Leadership expectations, roadmaps to achieve results and drive strategy through to execution.

  • Demonstrate a start-up mentality in relation to the media ecosystem by challenging the status quo, looking around corners and asking what is possible.

  • Drive digital growth by assessment of the competitive landscape, optimization of existing channel performance and identification of new opportunities.

Operational Excellence

  • Optimize the media spend ($300M budget) across paid, earned, and owned channels, ensuring a ROI.

  • Make media trade-offs to drive efficiency and maximize effectiveness of spend as measured by the traffic and revenue driven by media exposure.

  • Coordinate all media agencies and partners, execution of media assets, auditing, measurement and effectiveness. Lead RFP processes as needed to maximize partnerships and investments.

  • Develop and implement appropriate and timely analytics and reporting for all media activity to ensure accurate measurement of ROI.

Cross Functional Leadership

  • Inform the brand team's integrated marketing campaigns with subject matter expertise on effective marketing in the digital ecosystem.

  • Be a part of building the capability of the organization in digital marketing.

  • Serve as an influential and inspiring leader and teacher to the organization.

  • Act as a champion of the media programs across all platforms within the organization. Demonstrate a balance of thought leadership with a strong desire to deliver results internal leadership & external agency partners- providing leadership the visibility needed to drive business decisions.

  • Develop and foster relationships with internal partners across Merchandising that create buy in for digital and media network strategies.

  • Lead key sales pitch campaigns with our top external vendors.

Developing Talent and Teammate Engagement

  • Drive organization’s vision & purpose by painting a compelling picture of the strategy that motivates others to act.

  • Build effective teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals by establishing common objectives and a shared mindset.

  • Manage execution responsibilities and workload of direct/indirect reports to achieve organizational deliverables on time and with quality.

  • Develops talent through coaching, feedback, exposure, and stretch assignments to meet their own career goals as well as the organization’s priorities.

  • Establish strategic staffing and succession plans; successfully deliver on proposed staffing objectives.

  • Drive the talent selection process for open direct/indirect reporting positions; Ensure all direct reports are appropriately trained and on-boarded.

  • Drive engagement by creating a climate where people are motivated to do their best to help the organization achieve its objectives; focus on voice of teammate data (e.g., Engagement & Pulse results), partnering with organization leadership to drive necessary changes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree Marketing, Advertising, or relevant experience; Master’s or MBA Preferred

  • 10-15 years experience Strategic Planning, Project Management, Change Management, Digital/Technology

  • Natural influencing skills that can translate to delivering compelling narratives in a highly matrixed, cross-functional environment.

  • Strong collaborator who can promote a culture of teamwork across organizational boundaries; willing to break down functional silos to optimize business results

  • Ability to analyze data and draw relevant conclusions in a dynamic and complex business environment

  • Ability to deliver high-impact presentations to vendors, agencies and internal partners, including Sr. Leadership (C Suite
