FACILITIES & OPERATIONS INTERNSHIP

The University of Miami (UM) is seeking applications for a full-time paid internship with the Facilities, Events & Operations division within its Department of Athletics. UM holds Division I membership in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Men’s varsity athletic programs are sponsored in baseball, basketball, cross country, diving, football, tennis, and track and field. Women’s varsity athletic programs are sponsored in basketball, cross country, golf, rowing, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

The Facilities & Operations Internship is designed to provide exposure to all aspects of D1 college athletics, particularly those related to facilities, operations, and events. This position will serve as a facility manager and contributes by completing facility assessments, maintenance repairs, and small projects. This position will also assist with the set up and teardown of home athletic contests, as well as external events held within UM’s athletic venues. The Facilities & Operations Intern must provide excellent customer service, attention to detail, and possess an outstanding work ethic.

This position reports directly to the Assoc. Director of Facilities & Operations.

Primary responsibilities to include but not limited to:

• Assisting with facility management in all on-campus UM athletic facilities

• Assisting the Assoc. Director of Facilities & Operations with day-to-day operations

• Assisting the Asst. AD for Facilities & Operations with assigned tasks

• Serving as a facility manager to assigned facilities and areas

• Completing daily facility walkthroughs of assigned facilities and areas

• Completing various cleaning/facility upkeep assignments

• Completing facility maintenance projects (e.g., painting, pressure washing)

• Assisting with the management of work orders and related software

• Assisting with the management of access control and related software

• Assisting with facility maintenance and completing small facility projects

• Assisting with planned and preventive maintenance

• Assisting with management of facility operations during UM athletic contests

• Serving as a secondary contact to external users of UM athletic facilities

• Assisting the Director of Facilities, Events & Operations with facility scheduling

• Managing the upkeep and organization of the Facilities, Events & Operations office suite

• Uploading and assisting with the management of facility-related photos and/or social media content

Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Prior experience in facilities, operations, and/or event management in college athletics is preferred

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Flexibility in schedule to include some evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • Ability to work with various groups within the athletics department and the university

  • Working knowledge of social media platforms and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull objects weighing 40 pounds
