What is pre-college? University of Miami Pre-College (https://ssp.dcie.miami.edu/index.html) offers both credit and non-credit summer programs for high school students seeking to gain college experience before graduating from high school. Upon completion, participants feel better prepared for the undergraduate admission process and gain confidence in their academic choices and ability to succeed in college.

Pre-College programs include the Summer Scholars three-week credit program and UM Academies two- week, non-credit program for high school students (rising sophomores, juniors, and rising seniors).

Combined, the programs host approximately 700 students, of which approximately 600 are residential.

With health, safety, and wellbeing as our priority, we strive to provide an inclusive authentic campus experience for our pre-college students – filled with stimulating academics, engaging programming, and unique weekend excursions.

Temporary Administrative Assistant, University of Miami Pre-College (1 positions)

Administrative Assistant will join the University of Miami Pre-College team, which is responsible for administering the Summer Scholars three-week credit program and UM Academies two-week non-credit program.

As an integral member of the Pre-College leadership team, this Administrative Assistant will report to the Pre-College Assistant Dean and Program Manager and assist in the day-to-day management and administration of the residential program, while maintaining a regular on-campus presence during the summer program.

This opportunity provides the person in this role with invaluable real-world, hands-on work experience . Experience in residential life, student affairs, collaborative project management, and supporting students from diverse backgrounds align well with this role. We are seeking candidates who are dynamic, and who foster a positive inclusive campus environment.

University of Miami Pre-College seeks one Pre-College Administrative Assistant for Summer 2024.

  • 1 position open for the Summer Scholars Program: May 1 to July 26 (12 weeks)

    Position Description:

Leadership & Management

  • Work as a member of the University of Miami Pre-college team; embrace and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion; and foster the conditions for a strong campus community.

  • Responsible for quality and prompt incoming correspondence via phone, the Pre-College inbox, and voicemail with applicants, students and parents, triaging incoming queries to appropriate personnel

  • Responsible for making outgoing calls as needed supporting program initiatives.

  • Respond quickly to incoming calls related to time sensitive matters, emergencies , crisis situations, including involving various health/medical, behavioral, or other safety-related circumstance and triaging it to appropriate personnel

  • Point person for walk-in to the DCIE/The Pre-College Office and collaborates with front-desk admin

  • Manage invoice submission needs, procurement card transactions, requisition request, submit new supplier requests, Jira requests, and manage other financial request as assigned

  • Point person for office collaborations with Pre-College and Business Office Management

  • Additional point person for Academy Bus operations, and manage bus parking fee needs

Student Life Programming

  • Clerical support as needed

  • Be knowledgeable of campus resources and provide information when needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Information

  • Possess a valid driver’s license; drive a university vehicle

  • Some night and weekend work required

  • Reports to the Assistant Dean and Program Manager and collaborates with Pre-college office staff

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

    Compensation:

The position will be in-person. The Program Coordinator will reside in on-campus housing on a pre-college floor, among staff and pre-college students. Program Coordinators are provided with a single room in a UM residence hall, a meal plan, and access to the fitness center.

  • 5-week assignment:

  • 1 position open for the Summer Scholars Program

  • May 1 to July 26, 2024

  • The Administrative Assistant will be paid a $22/hr for the assignment.
