Description
The Project Manager is crucial for the planning, execution, and successful completion of utility/waterline projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both cost estimation and project management, with a deep understanding of the unique challenges and requirements associated with waterline/utility distribution. They will be responsible for accurately estimating project costs, managing resources, and overseeing all phases of the project to ensure timely and within-budget delivery. Essential Functions: The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for waterline/utility distribution projects, including materials, labor, and equipment. • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets. • Manage project timelines, ensuring all phases of the project are completed on time. • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and ensure the availability of necessary resources. • Monitor project progress, making adjustments as needed to address any issues or delays. • Oversee the procurement of materials and equipment, ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety standards. • Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans to mitigate potential project risks. • Prepare and present project reports to stakeholders, providing updates on progress, budget, and any issues encountered. • Ensure all project activities comply with industry regulations and company policies, particularly those related to utility operations and safety. • Lead and motivate project teams, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment. • Develop and maintain project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and as-built drawings. • Ensure strict adherence to environmental and regulatory requirements specific to waterline/utility distribution. • Lead project kickoff meetings and regular status updates with internal teams and external stakeholders. • Implement quality control measures to ensure that all project deliverables meet or exceed industry standards. • Manage project finances, including tracking expenses, forecasting costs, and ensuring all financial aspects of the project are aligned with budget expectations. Qualifications/Special Knowledge Skills: • Strong knowledge regarding the operations, safety, and maintenance of equipment being used. • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of managers and staff. Strong interpersonal skills to manage various personalities and conflicts. • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans, manage budgets, and drive growth initiatives. Strong analytical skills with the ability to prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates. • Proficient in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera). • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities. • Knowledge of utility construction techniques, materials, and safety protocols. • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams. • Ability to make informed decisions under pressure and solve complex problems quickly. • Understanding of industry-specific regulations and standards related to waterline distribution. Education/Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost estimation and project management within the utility industry. • Proven track record of managing large-scale utility projects from inception to completion. • Professional certification in Project Management (PMP) or Estimation is a plus. • Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing subcontractors.
