Responsibilities

The Patient Accounts Specialist is responsible for conducting utilization and quality assurance activities in accordance with Utilization Review, Business Office, Billing, and Coding policies and procedures. The Business Office clerk performs functions for providing ongoing administrative support to multiple departments. Business Office Clerk is responsible for the distribution of appropriate information to ancillary departments.

Job Requirements:
  • Relieves departmental staff of routine matters; within the scope of authority of the position, and within the guideline established by the Business Office Director.

  • Responsible for all administrative tasks to maintain the Business Office including but not limited to maintaining files, correspondence, typing, document preparation, packet preparation, gathering of documents and charts, etc. This information is organized in compliance with all regulatory, local, state & federal agencies.

  • Collects data and prepares various administrative tasks as necessary and distributes information in a timely manner. Tasks to include but not limited to gathering information, Keying information into appropriate systems and assisting UR Coordinators and Billing Specialists as needed for the timely submission of claims and to minimize denials. Communicates at all levels to ensure timely and accurate compliance with requirements.

  • Complies with all Administrative, Clerical, and HR policies and procedures.

  • Maintains an awareness of patient funding sources, discharge planning needs, and available resources in order to facilitate timely and accurate claims and payments.

  • Assists in the planning and organizational functions of the facilities Case Management System to minimize denials of payments.

  • Responsible for knowing hospital policies and being familiar with hospital services that are available.

  • Assists in the task of Data Review and Data entry as needed within the Business Office, Utilization Review Office, Medical Records Office, etc

  • Responsible for knowing departmental workflow and can report progress as needed to department Supervisor.

  • Supports hospital mission, philosophy, and goals.

  • Maintains a courteous and professional attitude when working with all Lighthouse Care Center staff members, management team and outside visitors, vendors family members.

  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

  • Attends annual review and performs department in-services

  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, department and staff.

  • From time to time may perform duties associated with Communication and Reception.

  • May work with HRD to ensure processing of high volume data such as evaluations,

    background checks, etc.
  • From time to time may assist other Directors by organizing assignments and

    administrative support.
