Position Summary The Education Counselor is responsible for the delivery and documentation of academic advising for undergraduate Pre-OT students. The position also develops academic degree plans for students. All duties and responsibilities are governed by state, federal and university policy Job Duties and Responsibilities -Monitor and Advise Freshman Declaration students for OTD program admission.\ -Maintain student records system for Freshman Declaration OTD Students.\ -Meet with any undergraduate students who have intentions of applying for the OTD program to discuss their degree plans, classes, career goals, prerequisite coursework and any issues that might need to be addressed.\ -Conduct campus tours for undergraduate and graduate students interested in Occupational Therapy.\ -Participate in undergraduate advising events (undergraduate advising trainings, Junior preview days, Bear Facts Days, Admitted student events, etc.)\ -Attend all SOAR events.\ -Plan and execute on campus OT promotional events.\ -Plan and execute virtual OT promotional events.\ -Allocate and order OT promotional items.\ -Write proposals for grant to procure funds for Occupational Therapy promotional expenditures.\ -Publicly represent the Occupational Therapy department through fairs, internal communications, external communications and student campus visits.\ -Communicate with assigned advising students regarding topics such as study skills, test taking, enrollment deadlines, and other available campus resources.\ -Serve as Faculty/Staff advisor for S.P.O.T. RSO and maintain participation records for Freshman Declaration students.\ -Handle all communication with students within OTCAS during annual OTD application cycle.\ -Facilitate incoming OTD cohort onboarding utilizing Banner and eValue systems.\ -Produce publications and videos to promote UCA OTD programming with high school counselors, high school students, and UCA students.\ -Serve on Admissions and Rewards Committees for OTD Department.\ -Attend weekly advising meetings with UCA Academic Advising Center.\ -Attend occupational therapy faculty meetings.\ -Organize and conduct mock interviews for OTD candidates during admissions process.\ -Track OTD admission and maintain acceptance letters and paperwork from newly admitted cohorts.\ -Advise students from other universities about prerequisite equivalency for OTD program requirements (typically have \150 students who apply each year with 50% off campus students).\ -Meet and track students identified At Risk for academic performance each semester at UCA.\ \ Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -Knowledge of the organization and administration of higher education.\ -Knowledge of student development theory.\ -Knowledge of state, federal, and university rules, regulations and procedures.\ -Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.\ -Ability to compile statistics into reports.\ -Ability to work collaboratively and independently with common goals as a part of a team.\ -Ability to make sound judgments and assist in resolving student concerns.\ -Effective interpersonal communication, writing, and organizational abilities.\ -Civility in all interactions of a public or confidential nature.\ -Demonstrate follow-up contacts and consultations in a timely manner. Required Education and/or Experience The formal education equivalent of a masters degree in education, counseling, or counselor education; plus one year of experience in counseling or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
