These services include site acquisition, design, and construction, to full operations, maintenance, and deconstruction.

Responsibilities and Duties: The Controls Field Engineer II is responsible for designing, programming, testing, and commissioning control systems for commercial and industrial building automation systems. This position will be based out of the Richmond VA market.

Duties include:

  1. Performs maintenance and commissioning of controls systems.

  2. Installs, replaces, and re-commissions control devices, equipment, and software.

  3. Diagnose and troubleshoots software and hardware issues with controls systems.

  4. Performs required systems testing sequence of operation testing.

  5. Communicate via emails, service tickets, reports, commission sheets, etc. This would include interfacing with Project Managers, engineering, programmers, installers and customers.

  6. Detailed point-to-point check-outs and evaluations of. Building automation, lighting, and access control systems to ensure proper installation and operation.

  7. Maintain accurate As-Built drawings.

  8. Calibrate systems using basic electronic test equipment, such as multi-meters and a laptop computer.

  9. Assist in troubleshooting and commissioning of software programming.

  10. Perform training of building automation systems to customers.

  11. Perform job database backups on a regular basis.

  12. Complete paperwork on-time, including timesheets, work orders, on-site documentation, and project status reports.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Education:

  1. Associates/Vocational Degree in HVAC/Building Automation Controls – required or

  2. Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in a related field (Engineering, Construction Management, etc.) – preferred.

  3. Will accept equivalent experience in lieu if a formal degree on a case-by-case basis.

  4. 3-7 years of relevant technical hands-on experience in systems programming and commissioning of digital HVAC controls systems.

  5. Strong working knowledge in HVAC mechanical and/or electrical systems

  6. Advanced troubleshooting skills in mechanical and electrical systems

  7. AutoCAD and/or some drafting experience preferred

  8. Strong working knowledge of temperature control theory and HVAC/Building Automation systems

General Skills:

  1. Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills.

  2. Strong observation and decision-making skills.

  3. Ability to organize and prioritize work.

  4. General knowledge of MS Office (Excel) required.

  5. Knowledge of project accounting, cost principals and contracting preferred.

  6. Must be able to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  7. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

  8. Must be available to travel as needed

  9. Must be able to work for any US employer without current or future visa sponsorship

Essential Functions: Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting to 20 pounds. Hand manipulation is required for grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, as well as below the shoulder for same. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and work at heights.
