The Role
The Planning Engineer II applies approved technologies and architectures to specific requirements for additions to support growth and new services at Lumen.
Location
This is a work from home position within the U.S.
The Main Responsibilities
Develops/defines plans for the implementation of new switch and router equipment or modifications to existing platforms. Prepares plans and specifications, to include submitting purchase/procurement requests, and arranging facility space and power, transport connectivity, and device management.
Assures that the most feasible, practical and economical means to complete the work are utilized. Provides cost data to support capital planning and budget forecasts. Monitors and controls project expenditures.
Tracks the installation/construction, testing, and operations acceptance of deployed equipment.
Applies theories, concepts, principles, and methodologies across broad professional network planning and/or engineering experience to ensure successful project completion.
Analyzes trending reports to determine areas requiring hardware and/or bandwidth augmentation or optimization.
Manages work/task intakes per service level agreements. Highly responsive to escalations and changing priorities.
Independently plan and carry out assignments per acceptable policies/practices while exercising good judgement. Provide feedback toward process improvement.
Collaborate and build relationships with multiple organizations and 3rd party vendors.
What We Look For in a Candidate
Required:
5+ years professional telecommunications experience and a Bachelor's Degree or higher.
High attention to detail with intense focus on high quality output.
Ability to successfully prioritize and multitask across multiple projects.
Demonstrable academic and technical understanding of LAN/WAN internetworking technologies and protocols, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, ISIS, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, VPLS, QoS, L2VPN, L3VPN, multicast, and IPv4/IPv6.
Technical experience with various Cisco, Juniper, and/or Nokia switch and router platforms.
Strong data trending and analysis skills.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
Proven track record as adept and effective project manager.
Exceptional intra and interdepartmental collaboration and communications skills.
Strong computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint.
Positive and professional attitude and demeanor, and ability to work both independently and within a team.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in related field, professional and/or technical certification, and 2+ years of network hardware design, planning, and implementation experience.
Experience in an engineering role that included a substantial business/financial focus.
Computer scientist knowledge, to include data analytics, predictive analysis, automation development, and reporting.
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

$66,375 - $88,500 in these states: AL AR AZ FL GA IA ID IN KS KY LA ME MO MS MT ND NE NM OH OK PA SC SD TN UT VT WI WV WY
$69,694 - $92,925 in these states: CO HI MI MN NC NH NV OR RI
$73,013 - $97,350 in these states: AK CA CT DC DE IL MA MD NJ NY TX VA WA
