Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Respiratory Therapist $10,000 sign on bonus FT and $5,000 PT in Commack, New York

Set on a 36-acre campus in Commack, NY, the Gurwin Healthcare System includes the 460-bed Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, providing short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care, memory care, respiratory and ventilator care, palliative and hospice care, social and medical adult day programs, and on-site dialysis and infusion therapy. Sharing the campus is Gurwin’s Assisted Living community (Gurwin Jewish Fay J. Lindner Residences), our independent living community (Fountaingate Gardens) and Gurwin Certified and Licensed Home Care Services Agencies.

Our innovative facility and growing services offer opportunities to advance your career. We are currently seeking Respiratory Therapists who will embody the passion and commitment required to deliver the ultimate care for our residents and have the following opportunities available:

Full-time evening or night shift

Part-time day shift

Requirements:

  • Graduation from a JRCRTE - AMA accredited program in Respiratory Care. Licensed by the NYS Department of Education as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Technician (CRT). Basic Life Support. A minimum of 3-5 years of respiratory therapy experience preferred. Member of the American Association for Respiratory Care preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Candidates must be able to make decisions within the scope of respiratory care and make appropriate recommendations as indicated to the responsible physician.

  • Responsible for the respiratory care rendered to all residents. Follows policy and clinical procedures in respiratory care as ordered by the responsible physician.

  • Knowledge of dementia population and dealing with related behaviors.

  • Able to recognize when a resident is in pain and take appropriate actions.

  • Provides short and/or long-term support of patients having increased chronic or acute respiratory difficulty by providing respiratory modalities, as per physician orders.

  • Facility personnel having direct and consistent clinical contact with residents must have the skills necessary to address the specialized needs of geriatric and sub-acute/rehab populations. This includes recognition of the relative and respective physical, psychosocial and emotional changes that occur at different stages in life, the understanding of which promotes the ability to provide quality care.

  • The aforementioned must demonstrate proficiency upon hire, after orientation and on an annual basis in the acquisition, interpretation and communication of age-specific data as it pertains to our residents.

  • Assesses the patient’s physical problems such as signs and symptoms of respiratory distress, failure, etc.

  • Determines need for respiratory equipment, and other related equipment supplies inventory of same and need for

  • repair or replacement as appropriate.

  • Assesses the patient’s compliance with the therapeutic regimen and discusses with the medical and nursing staffs any areas of non-compliance to determine possible change in treatment plan.

  • lnservices patient, family and staff in pulmonary hygiene and the use of the respiratory equipment to be used by

  • the patient when appropriate.

  • Communicates information on a regular basis to the nurse who is responsible for and coordinates patient care.

  • Provides timely documentation including, but not limited to; assessments, plans, goals, care, summary reports and related data.
