Battelle’s National Security Business Unit is currently seeking candidates for a full time, permanent position as an R&D Chemical Engineer II . This position is located in Columbus, Ohio .
Lead the design, planning, development, execution, analysis, and reporting of vapor/gas and aerosol-related experiments performed in the laboratory and in the field
Participate in field testing requiring domestic travel
Analyze and assess the capabilities of chemical production facilities
Utilize and refine proprietary software to perform assessments of chemical production and biological production facilities
Participation in studies related to the laboratory synthesis, commercial production, and international uses of pesticides and other chemicals, including simulation of the processes using ChemCAD process simulation software
Participate in studies related to the laboratory synthesis, commercial production, reprocessing, and international uses of nuclear fuels and related chemicals
Assist in the performance of hazardous material consequence assessments
Participate in data compilation, data reduction, data review, and data analysis
Assist in the documentation of laboratory findings and results, including progress reports and final reports
THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED
Master’s degree in chemical engineering with at least 3 years of industrial or relevant experience
Demonstrated experience with chemical process simulation (ChemCAD, ASPEN, SuperPro, etc.)
Demonstrated laboratory experience working with benchtop processes
The ability to work in a team environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Incumbent must successfully pass medical screening, including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE) and work with highly hazardous materials
Willingness to travel domestically for field testing
Sole US citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED
Experience with aerosol generation/measurement
Experience in pharmaceutical product synthesis and/or production
Experience with chemical production process emissions estimation and reporting
Experience with computer code development (C, C++, C#, VB.NET, MatLab, Python, Visual Basic, etc.)
Experience with dynamic chemical production modeling and/or reactive molecular dynamics simulations
Experience with explosives/energetic systems and/or canine training activities
Experience with solid rocket propellants
Experience with specialized materials for hypersonic vehicles
Experience with estimating and/or reporting vapor, liquid, and solid emissions from industrial processes.
