Battelle’s Bioscience Center team is currently seeking a full time Senior Technician to provide support to government and commercial programs focused on the development, evaluation, and implementation of materials, devices, and techniques designed to detect, provide protection against, and mitigate the effects of chemical, biological, and radiological hazards. This position is located in Columbus, OH .
Support the design, execution, and reporting of experiments rooted in microbiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology within structured regulatory and quality frameworks (e.g. Select Agent regulations, ISO 9001:2008, and GLP)
Active participation to maintain laboratory equipment and facilities within structured quality frameworks (e.g., ISO 9001:2015, and GLP)
Performance and method development of microbiological and cell culture procedures
Performance and method development of protein isolation and characterization procedures
Performance/direction of routine and non-routine laboratory procedures to support analytical operations
Following established safety guidelines to safely work with hazardous/infectious materials
Perform data reduction, data review, and data compilation adhering to accepted practices
Analyze data to identify and troubleshoot test methodologies
Documentation of draft reports for senior scientists
Presentation and reporting of progress and results to senior scientists
Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to perform administrative functions as necessary, to ensure smooth functioning of experiments and timely distribution of program deliverables. Some domestic travel is anticipated.
THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED
Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in the life sciences with a background in bacteriology, virology, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry
Ability and willingness to work in biological safety level 2 (BSL-2) laboratories
Good oral and written communication skills
The ability to work in a team environment
Sole U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment
Sufficiently medically fit to work in the laboratory to perform assigned duties including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE), lift up to 50 pounds, and work in the proximity of hazardous/infectious materials
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED
Practical experience working with microbial pathogens and/or toxins of importance to public health, agriculture, and/or the environment
Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) experience
Previous experience in one of more of the following areas: marine biology, aerobiology, virology, eukaryotic cell culture, molecular biology.
Demonstrated proficiency in advanced laboratory techniques (e.g., flow cytometry, real-time PCR, nucleic acid sequencing)
