JPMorgan Chase Lead Infrastructure Engineer - Mainframe IMS in Columbus, Ohio

As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Corporate Technology Infrastructure Platforms Mainframe Midrange Compute team, you apply deep knowledge of software, applications, and technical processes within the infrastructure engineering discipline. Continue to evolve your technical and cross-functional knowledge outside of your aligned domain of expertise.

Job responsibilities

  • Works in partnership with mainframe z/OS system programming teams to install and maintain a secure and healthy Mainframe IMS environment

  • Installs, migrates, and configures IMS v15.3 & 15.4

  • Uses IMS performance and monitoring tools to perform Buffer Pool Tuning and IMS dump analysis

  • Uses Software Management Program/Extended (SMP/E) target/distribution libraries tp develop automated maintenance jobs and scripts accurately

  • Works with IMS database administrators to triage, mitigate and permanently resolve day-to-day production issues

  • Manages IBM software maintenance by running SYSMOD reports, managing HIPER and system vulnerability fixes and responding to HOLDDATA actions required

  • Performs on-call duties within on on-call shift rotation across a global and diverse team, providing daily turnover and management updates in collaboration with IBM & BMC

  • Enhances and automates maintenance processes using REXX, CLIST scripting skills

  • Applies technical expertise and problem-solving methodologies to projects of moderate scope

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering* concepts and 3+ years applied experience

  • 5+ years of IBM IMS v15 systems programming experience in a mainframe z/OS operating system

  • Experience with z/OS ISPF, SMP/E, JCL and JES2

  • 5+ years of using Software Management Program/Extended (SMP/E) to build product packages and target/distribution libraries; ISV installations and problem solving tools

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering* concepts and 5+ years applied experience

  • Deep knowledge of one or more areas of infrastructure engineering such as hardware, networking terminology, databases, storage engineering, deployment practices, integration, automation, scaling, resilience, or performance assessments

  • Deep knowledge of one specific infrastructure technology and scripting languages (e.g., Scripting, Python, etc.)

  • Drives to continue to develop technical and cross-functional knowledge outside of the product

  • Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure and multiple cloud technologies with the ability to operate in and migrate across public and private clouds

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience with IBM IMS tools and product suites

  • Experience with IMS-to-IMS replication and IMS CDC replication
