Battelle Memorial Institute Compliance Specialist in Columbus, Ohio

Battelle's Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Business Line is currently seeking candidates for a full time, permanent position as a Compliance Specialist . This position is located in West Jefferson, Ohio .


  • Responsible for implementing, administering, and managing the Chemical Personnel Reliability Program.

  • Responsible for certifying facility personnel for access to chemicals and the laboratory and ensuring staff members are continually monitored.

  • Participate in all applicable regulatory or oversight entity activities by preparing for the inspections and accompanying the visit(s). Respond to inquiries from these entities and to quickly coordinate any immediate deficiencies that the inspection team has identified for immediate action.

  • Planning, organizing, and reporting quarterly emergency response exercises for our high containment laboratories.

  • In the event of an emergency response, responsible for the after-action review and reporting on corrective actions and managing action plans.

  • Organizing and stocking all supplies used for the management of emergency responses.

  • Acts as a disinterested witness for the review and certification of chemical agent inventories.

  • Coordinates approvals and notifications for chemical agent use.


  • Bachelor’s degree in life/physical science with three years of work experience

  • Must possess the ability to communicate with all levels of staff within in an accurate, concise, and helpful manner.

  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and management skills with proficient use of computers especially the Microsoft Office suite of applications.

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork, leadership, motivational, and negotiating skills, professional demeanor, customer service orientation, and ability to overcome adversarial interactions in a firm but diplomatic manner.

  • Must be able to work productively with minimal supervision.

  • Must be detail oriented and have superb organizational skills including priority setting, time management, planning and follow-up, and attention to detail.

  • Must be able to follow the guidelines, policies and procedures and to facilitate compliance of others with these rules.

  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance.

  • Must be willing to participate in random drug screening


  • Knowledge of DoD rules and regulations surrounding chemical/biological agent operations.
