The Department of Educational and Developmental Science at the University of South Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time, open rank tenure track position in Special Education with the anticipated start date of Fall 2025. The Programs in Special Education at the University of South Carolina is seeking applications for an open-rank, tenure track professor in special education with a focus on academic interventions for students with disabilities, including students with autism and related intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are particularly interested in candidates’ whose research examines reading, writing, and math instruction at the elementary or secondary levels. The position is a 9-month academic appointment with a teaching load of two courses in fall and two courses in spring.

Job responsibilities include the following: 1) teach introductory, curriculum, and methods courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, 2) establish a strong and ongoing research agenda, 3) seek external funding, 4) direct graduate research, and 6) serve on university, college, and program committees as assigned. The successful candidate will be affiliated with the Carolina Autism and Neurodevelopment Research Center, a University initiative that seeks to build capacity for interdisciplinary research and training related to autism and other neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Advertised Minimum Qualifications :

Candidates should have a) an earned doctorate in special education, b) evidence of 5 years’ experience working with children or youth with disabilities, c) evidence of a focused scholarly agenda, and d) experience securing extramural funding (Associate or Full levels) or potential to secure extramural funding (Assistant level). Candidates must have expertise in academic interventions for children and youth with disabilities and experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses online. In addition, the candidate must share the College of Education’s commitment to educating South Carolina’s racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.
