The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor - Collision will plan, organize, oversee and direct collision repair of the company's transportation fleet across all company locations, working with branch leadership, local resources and outside contractors. Where applicable, provide supervision and direction of internal fleet maintenance personnel.

General direction is provided by the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent. Collaborate with and provide guidance to branch leadership to plan and schedule collision repair, coordinate selection of local body repair facilities, negotiate repair costs with outside contractors and oversee work completion. Monitor progress of repairs, manage cost of each repair project and provide solutions to deliver reduced down duration and cost control. Responsibilities will include development of national contracts, negotiated set labor rates and not to exceed repair parts pricing with collision repair shops across all regions.

Primary Responsibilities

+ + Plans and schedules collision repair work, establishes repair priorities, develops and implements programs to establish standard collision repair cost, parts and temporary replacement assets. Manages, analyzes and monitors costs of the transportation fleet.

  • Determines requirements for spare parts, supplies, and materials inventory. Recommends design specifications for the Transportation Fleet trucks and trailers.

  • Makes budget requests, analyzes spend to develop fleet collision repair budget and monitors budget expenditures.

  • Researches, catalogs, checks prices, orders and makes direct purchases of repair parts, labor rates and preferred body repair providers.

  • Opens, updates records, and closes work orders.

  • Manages POs or Credit card payments to shops for repairs.

  • Works with the Maintenance side to make sure that all inspections are completed before returning to service.

  • Establishes standards of performance and develops operating metrics for measuring contractor performance. Provides direction for adherence to established work methods, checks and directs the completion of work in progress.

  • Provides direction and assistance for collision repair of the company’s transportation fleet.

  • Establishes local working relationships and develops communication tools in support of the branch goals and objectives. Works closely with local leadership to provide a safe, reliable and cost effective fleet.

  • Observes and enforces safety regulations, provides status of projects and attends meetings and training sessions as necessary.

  • Knowledge of:

  • Methods, practices, material and tools of the equipment mechanic trade.

  • Operating and repair characteristics of a variety of automotive and heavy equipment vehicles, trailers and equipment.

  • Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the workplace.

  • Equipment purchasing and acquisition practices and methods.

  • Principles of gasoline and diesel engines, wide knowledge of chassis systems and components.

  • Principles and practices of supervision and training.

  • Fleet maintenance record keeping systems.

  • Principles of budget and fiscal policies.

Skills & Qualifications

  • At least 5 years experience in Maintenance Supervision

  • Bachelors Degree preferred, High School Degree required.

  • Understand comprehensive maintenance programs, track past due inspections and insure compliance to complete inspections after collision repairs are completed.

  • Understand collision repair estimating, ability to oversee multiple repairs in progress to ensure efficient and quality repair work.

  • I-CAR certification or similar automotive collision repair industry knowledge and skills.

  • Collision damage appraisal experience, repair estimating to develop accurate damage reports, production management skills to provide oversight of repairs in process to ensure timely communication for customer service, while delivering efficient and safe collision repair.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to acquire a CDL as necessary based on job requirements. Maintaining a valid driver’s license is a condition of employment.

  • Understanding of DOT commercial motor vehicle inspections and repair of braking systems as specified by DOT requirements.

  • ASE or state certifications are not required, but are recommended.

  • Working knowledge of Brakes, Manual DriveTrain and Axles, Suspension and Steering, Heating and Air Conditioning, Electrical/ Electronic Systems, Engine Performance, Engine Repair, etc.
