The Registered Nurse (RN) is licensed by the State of Maryland through national examination for the practice of nursing. The RN is educationally prepared for competent practice at the beginning level upon graduation from an approved school of nursing. The RN's experience, education, knowledge and abilities establish a level of competence. The RN uses specialized knowledge, judgment and skills as the basis for assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning,

implementation and evaluation of the practice of nursing. The RN manages the direct patient care of an identified patient or group of patients. The RN assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for the delivery of all patient care. The RN may delegate the responsibility to perform nursing tasks to individuals on the healthcare team (LPN, PCT, NA) who are competent to perform these acts or tasks. When delegating to an unlicensed individual, the RN retains accountability for the nursing tasks. A RN is assigned charge responsibilities on a rotating basis, on each shift. Communications and collaboration are required within and outside the work group to provide patient care and resolve mutual issues. Communication and collaboration with external contacts is for the provision of on-going service and handling of routine transactions, frequently detailed information. Is responsible for ensuring that satisfaction and service to internal and external contacts is maintained.

Work

  1. BSN is preferred for nurses hired prior to July 1, 2016.

  2. All nurses hired after July 1, 2016 must:

• Hold a BSN, or

• Complete a BSN program within 4 years of their hire date with steady progress toward degree completion. Steady progress is defined as a minimum of 9 credits per calendar year from the time they begin course work. RNs who are not yet enrolled in a BSN program, must apply to and be accepted into a BSN program within six months of hire, with course work to begin promptly after acceptance.

• An employee's transfer between the hospital and TCAS is not considered a break in employment; therefore, s/he will be grandfathered. Similarly, should a RN accept a position in a role other than nursing within the hospital then later returns to a nursing clinical position, s/he will also be grandfathered.

  1. Minimum of one (1) year of experience preferred.

  2. Previous specialty clinical experience preferred for specialty units.

  3. Clinical Nurse I (CN I) - A novice nurse who has completed nursing school and passed the NCLEX; is enrolled in the RN Fellowship program; automatic progression to CN II after 1 year of successful performance post-hire as CN I.

  4. Clinical Nurse II (CN II) - Level of entry for a newly hired experienced Registered Nurse possessing at least one year of RN experience.

  5. Clinical Nurse III (CN III) - Voluntary advancement process upon review and approval of application portfolio.

  6. Clinical Nurse IV (CN IV) - BSN required. Voluntary promotion process upon review and approval of application portfolio and successful interview.
