The certified nurse midwife (CNM) works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team and is responsible for providing comprehensive care to obstetrical patients in Labor and Delivery at Howard County General Hospital. The CNM practices within the guidelines of the unit department and institution and in accordance with the nurse midwife requirements approved by the State of Maryland. The midwife is granted affiliate staff privileges by the Howard County General Hospital Medical Board; these privileges list specific tasks and are reviewed annually.

-- Master's degree or certificate from an accredited school.

  • Completion of accredited certified nurse midwifery program.

  • Current nurse midwife licensure in the state of Maryland

  • Current certification as a certified nurse midwife by American College of Nurse Midwifery

  • Continuing education as required for maintenance of nurse midwife certification

  • Current DEA registration and CDS certificate

-- Three years of related clinical nursing or midwifery experience.

  • Ability to incorporate into practice theoretical concepts and advanced clinical skills

with patients, families, and interdisciplinary health care team members.

  • Analytical ability necessary to diagnose patients and to develop and implement

plans of action for long- and short-term management of acute and chronic health.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with all

members of the interdisciplinary health care team to enhance collaboration and

problem-solving.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in order to provide

information to patients and health care personnel.

  • Ability to function effectively in a fluid, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment.

  • 24 hours per week, rotating nights, weekends and holidays on 1:6 basis/potential for additional work hours

  • Located in Columbia, Maryland
