Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Technical Editor and Writer to join our team supporting the Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC) program. This position would be based in the Colorado Springs, Colorado area.

Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Writes, rewrites, and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.

  • Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing the performance of production methods, and referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.

  • Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.

  • Conducts quality review of materials.

  • Mentor and/or instructs junior writers.

This position requires being onsite and does not support remote or hybrid work.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6 Years of relevant experience with a completed Bachelor's degree; 4 Years of relevant experience with a completed Masters's degree; an additional 4 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a completed degree (High School diploma or equivalent is required with additional experience)

  • Must have an Active or Interim Secret DoD security clearance [US Citizenship required]

  • Experience with technical editing and writing within aerospace, Air Force, or DoD contract environments

  • Experience with developing products IAW MIL-STD 40051-1 and 40051-2

  • Experience with reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description documents

  • Complete understanding and application of DoD/Air Force Technical Orders principles, concepts, practices, and standards

  • Knowledge of industry practices: to include operations & maintenance of military systems, radars, or information systems

  • Ability to travel up to 10% and ability to travel OCONUS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in file configuration management

  • Experienced in querying authors for clarity and compliance purposes and must be skilled in Microsoft Word, MS excel, and PowerPoint

  • Experience in utilizing the Maintenance Manual change process

  • Experience writing in XML/S1000D International Specification for Technical Publications/IETM/Data Module writing (Arbortext, EAGLE, XMetal, or similar program)

  • Experience in an electronic/avionic field or in a Department of Defense (DoD) maintenance background.

  • Familiar with developing products IAW MIL-STD 38784B

  • Experienced in creating multi-configuration, multi-effectivity indentured parts lists from engineering and LSA data

  • Ability to identify and possibly work around limited engineering and LSA data

  • Experienced with Isometric IPB graphics and layout

  • Experienced with creating and revising IPB’s using MIL-DTL-38807 or MIL-PRF-38807

  • Experience with AGILE, SCRUM, DevOps, etc

Salary Range: $73,300 - $109,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
