Summary Description: If the position is on call Event Specialist is an occasional position, less than 20 hours per week, that assists with the event execution of campus events.

Event Support:

Greet customers and guests with a courteous attitude and be willing to provide accurate information to all faculty, students, staff and visitors. Assist with setting up and breaking down of events i.e moving furniture, signage, and other event equipment. Work with the full-time events staff to gain an understanding for each event and be attentive to safety and security of guests. Work event with attention to detail and be conscience of time restraints. Identify issues (if necessary) and solve or report to Events Staff. Ability to cover team member's shift or assist staff during busy event times. Ability to work on-call to assist customers and receive or redirect calls when necessary and assist with checking-in, monitoring and checking-out guests. Be aware of emergency procedures, and trouble shoot concerns throughout the event with Event Staff. Manage sensitive and confidential information that relates to events.

Additional Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED; minimum 18 years of age; ability to recognize and troubleshoot issues; some event planning experience; basic knowledge of Microsoft Suite (MS Word, MS Excel). Must be able to use a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks. Must be able to operate a variety of office equipment (computers, copiers and phones). Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds. Ability to establish and maintain excellent cooperative working relationships. Ability to think critically and the ability to problem solve; work well under pressure, able to respond to events with patience; handle stress and remain calm; common sense and good attitude; support needs of others; excellent organizational and customer service skills; ability to handle multiple demands and workload. Ability to carry out assignments without detailed instructions and ability to work independently. Ability to learn and effectively apply institutional and departmental policies, procedures and protocols. Ability to follow safety and security guidelines and exercise good judgement. Ability to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately. Willingness and flexibility to work mornings, evenings and weekends and holidays as needed. Ability to communicate with supervisor and work around personal obligations while advocating for time off as needed. Must present a professional appearance and attitude. Ability to stand for prolonged times and lift up to 50
