ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Estimator oversees and prepares cost estimates primarily for public agency, federal, and private civil improvement projects. They will also aid management in bidding strategies as well as sourcing and developing Design-Build / CMAR bid opportunities. The ideal candidate should have a blend of civil site construction experience in roadway improvements and underground utilities.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.

  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. Assess cost effectiveness of projects, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.

  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.

  • Confer with engineers, architects, mgmt, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.

  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.

  • Review material and labor requirements, to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components.

  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.

  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.

  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.

  • Establish and maintain the bidding process, and conduct negotiations. Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hours and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.

  • Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

  • Acts as a mentor to Estimator and Estimating Assistants, assisting them with questions regarding job specifications and the bidding process

  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor's degree – Civil Engineering or Construction Management

Field of Study Preferred: Civil Engineering and Construction Management.

Required Work Experience: 5-7 years

Required Computer and Software Skills: B2W Estimate, HCSS Heavy Bid or Similar – Civil-Based

estimating software. On Screen 2 Dimensional Takeoff and Trimble Business Center or similar 3-D Takeoff.

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of HolciHolcim-approved Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean-shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
