Philips Engineering Manager in Colorado Springs, Colorado


In this role, you have the opportunity to

Manage the activities of our engineering department with responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing. Your team will design, optimize and develop improvements to processes and equipment to allow products to be manufactured with efficiency and quality while maintaining compliance to ISO and FDA requirements.

You are responsible for

  • Managing the activities of an engineering team with responsibility for results, costs (e.g. CAPEX) and staffing.

  • Developing resource plans, training plans, various analyses

  • Ensuring right capabilities are assigned to projects

  • Ensuring adherence to business processes

  • Driving team efficiency

  • Supporting make or buy and outsourcing decisions

  • Supporting sourcing plans for tools, equipment and manufacturing processes

  • Supports definition of continuous improvement programs

  • Our daily work that includes both sustaining and project work – we strive to complete the types of projects that remove the need for sustaining work – improving safety, quality, output and eliminating scrap.

  • The team is frequently called to:

  • develop solutions to safety or ergonomic concerns, which may involve analyzing work methods, developing fixtures or identifying new ways of doing a task.

  • Daily sustaining work includes troubleshooting and developing solutions for various chemical and mechanical issues, especially with respect to the following: epoxies - mixing/ curing/ drying/ wicking/ polishing; plastic tubing - fusing/ flaring/ forming; fiber optics – drawing, coating, curing, winding, stuffing, polishing; equipment troubleshooting/repair – simple mechanical machines, temperature controllers, PLC’s, HMI’s, motion controllers, etc.; packaging and sealing pouches and trays; cleaning – ultrasonic, ionizers; testing – burst, tensile, leak, optical gauge, FTIR, DSC, SEM; CAD modeling – Solidworks, and more

  • Process validation and verification work is frequently required – knowledge of Process Validation Plans, IQ, OQ, PQ, Software validation, test method validation, gage R&R, a and a clear understanding of FDA’s QSR and cGMP, and a good grounding in statistics would be instrumental to success.

  • Our team uses the Agile Scrum methodology to set the course of our weekly work. Together with our production customers, we prioritize the highest value solutions from our storehouse of improvement ideas and then plan our work in 2 week sprints and work together to achieve what we commit to.

  • Contributing to an environment in which all team members are respected regardless of their individual differences and are motivated to improve both their individual and team contributions to achieve desired business results. Training less experienced personnel on established methods and procedures. Facilitating the transfer of technical knowledge, while demonstrating an understanding of those with a diverse background or experience.

You are a part of

Our Manufacturing Engineering team, a dynamic group of individuals with diverse strengths working together to continuously deliver solutions to meet the needs of our production customers.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • BS degree in an engineering discipline, preferably in Mechanical Engineering but may also be Chemical, Electrical, or Materials Engineering degree

  • 5+ years’ in manufacturing engineering/operations and product/process development, with medical device experience preferred; 3+ years’ experience with MS degree

  • Managing a team of Engineers to include influencing team members to drive changes in the team; implement efficiency improvements in the team; understands and can deploy relevant business processes to the team; coach and challenge team members on technical knowledge

  • Finance, including product cost, budgeting, business cases, departmental costs

  • Strong understanding of problem-solving techniques with ability to coach team members on basic problem-solving techniques and builds problem solving capabilities in the team

  • Understanding the technologies utilized by the team to succeed:

  • Advanced knowledge of job-related tools, processes, testing equipment, and catheter production equipment preferred. Demonstrated history of fast learning for job related tools, processes, equipment required

  • Working knowledge of basic PC programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, and basic documentation systems).

  • Statistical analysis skill set is required Effective working knowledge and experience with Project Management, Lean, Shainin Red-X, Six Sigma, Design for Manufacturing and Reliability (DRM), DOE, Process Control (SPC), process FMEA, validation/qualification, traceability, and process documentation.

  • Familiarity with the Agile Scrum methodology a plus

  • Self-starter, innovative, resourceful, work with minimal direction, and should have excellent skills in problem solving and troubleshooting, oral and written communications, and teaming skills

The salary range for this position is:$100 - $125k The bonus target is: 10%
