Job Overview

The Cardiac Sonographer performs clinical echocardiographic studies for congenital heart disease on patients ranging from neonatal to adult. The Cardiac Sonographer has obtained proficiency, competency, and knowledge in the field of echocardiography, comprehension of anatomy and physiology.

Department: Briargate Cardiology Hours per week: PRN, as needed Shift: PRN staff are expected to: be available 3 days per pay period float to the hospital call rotation (to include weekends and holidays

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: One year of relevant experience Equivalency: Completion of a two-year college program with emphasis on imaging modalities or other associated medical program; American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) registration required. Certification(s): Pediatric Registry required within one year upon hire; Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE Neonate - 30 days to 1yr Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs Preschoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs School age - >5yrs to 13yrs Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Performs clinical echocardiographic (echo) studies, newborns to adults, for congenital heart disease with a moderate degree of difficulty or complexity requiring knowledge of hemodynamics, physiology, and congenital heart disease. Completes echocardiography studies strictly following departmental sequence and protocol. Completes Doppler studies and obtains appropriate color flow and spectral analysis Doppler data including advanced analysis f hemodynamics. Prepares accurate preliminary summaries of the echocardiography findings for cardiologist interpretation providing documentation of observed echo findings; reviews completed studies with cardiologist Provides assistance to new sonographers, fellows, and visiting sonographers.
