Job Description:
Perform oral prophylaxis, placement of dental sealants, application of fluoride varnish, and application of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) as permitted by Florida law. Instruct, evaluate, and supervise patients in oral hygiene education and preventive dental techniques.
Complete appropriate extra- and intra-oral examinations. Probe, chart, maintain medical and dental histories, take blood pressure readings, write progress notes, and enter charges. Greet and prepare patients for treatment. Establish rapport with the patients to relieve anxiety. Maintain daily records and patient charts. Collect patient data pertaining to clinical research.
Package and sterilize clinical supplies and instruments. Assist in organizing and controlling the use of clinical supplies. Assist with assembly and breakdown of portable dental equipment for community-based dental programs.
Participate in dental in-service training and lectures. Attend meetings as required. Maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification and registered dental hygienist (RDH) licensure.
Travel to service locations as assigned; other duties as assigned.
Expected Salary:
$40/hr, commensurate with education/experience
Minimum Requirements:
Licensed as a dental hygienist in accordance with Chapter 466, Florida Statutes and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
CPR certification
Ability to drive to various locations within Collier County
Good communication skills to foster relationships with partnerships of outreach program
Experience working with pediatric populations
Past experience working in the Medicaid system
Past experience working in a dental outreach program
Working knowledge of dental sealants, fluoride varnish, silver diamine fluoride, and pediatric dentistry
Fluent in Spanish
Ability to prepare, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments and equipment
Ability to perform multiple tasks and make independent decisions in a fast-paced clinic
Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work assignments
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Ability to work with diverse individuals and pediatric populations
Ability to handle language and cultural diversity
Ability to work through some language and communication barriers
Ability to pay close attention to details
