Position Summary The Life Safety department at Saint John s University invite applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit eligible position of Life Safety Officer. Under the direct supervision of the Director and Sergeants of Life Safety Services, the Campus Security Officer is responsible for patrolling assigned areas of the campus, ensuring the safety and security of the Saint John s community. This role includes monitoring security concerns, enforcing traffic regulations, and addressing health and safety matters to protect all students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities Perform assigned patrol duties on foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle to ensure the security and safety of campus buildings, grounds, and the community. Ensure adherence to vehicular traffic and parking rules, maintaining orderly and safe campus operations. Patrol campus facilities and grounds as directed by the Director of Life Safety or other authorized personnel, identifying and addressing security, safety, or disorderly conditions. Identify and report hazardous conditions, fire risks, and any other potential threats to safety. Respond swiftly to emergencies, including fires, medical incidents, security breaches, and criminal complaints, providing appropriate protection and aid as authorized. Offer assistance to students, staff, visitors, monastic members, and corporate officers, in accordance with departmental policies and regulations. Address incidents such as fires, medical emergencies, traffic accidents, and security breaches, providing necessary support and coordinating with appropriate authorities. Investigate traffic accidents and report findings to relevant authorities, following department guidelines. Provide traffic direction and crowd control during campus events, ensuring smooth and safe operations. Participate in all required departmental and corporate meetings, as well as training sessions, to maintain knowledge and skills relevant to the role. Testify in court proceedings or university hearings as required, offering accurate and professional representation of incidents. Complete and submit required reports and records with accuracy and attention to detail. Oversee and guide student officers, ensuring adherence to department standards. Ensure the proper upkeep of uniforms and equipment in compliance with departmental regulations. Perform dispatcher responsibilities when required, ensuring effective communication and coordination of security efforts. Execute other duties as assigned by the department or corporate authorities.
