The Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University, College Station (http://philosophy.tamu.edu) seeks outstanding applicants for five positions at the ranks of tenure-track Assistant Professsor or tenured Associate Professor. The proposed starting date is August 1, 2024. Each position is a 9 month, full-time, position, with a typical teaching load of 2:2. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Duties for this position include teaching assigned courses, graduate and undergraduate advising; research in the candidate’s areas of expertise that will result in publications with appropriate journals and university presses (or other equivalent academic presses), as well as other research outputs, such as grants, fellowships, awards, and scholarly presentations; and service that includes participation in faculty meetings, departmental committees and other departmental initiatives as assigned, as well as service to the college, university, and profession
The Department is hiring three positions with specializations in core areas of analytic philosophy broadly construed (such as but not restricted to Metaphysics, the Philosophy of Mind, Epistemology, and the Philosophy of Language).
The Department is hiring two positions in the History of Philosophy with one position in ancient philosophy.
The Department of Philosophy at Texas A&M has areas of strength in numerous philosophical traditions, e.g. Africana, Analytic Metaphysics, Applied Ethics, Decision Theory, Value Theory, Continental, and Latin American/Decolonial philosophy, thus offering an intellectually rich environment in which to pursue scholarship and teach. The Department encourages applicants who will complement these areas of research strength, as well as contribute to our undergraduate program in Society, Ethics, and the Law.
A Ph.D. in Philosophy or closely related discipline is required. Successful candidates at the level of Associate Professor will hold a Ph.D. in Philosophy or a closely related field, and will have a record of research excellence as evidenced by an active program of research, a record of high-quality publications, academic presentations, and other research outcomes. Successful candidates at the Assistant Professor level will hold a Ph.D. in Philosophy or a closely related field, and have a promising record of research.
