National Archives and Records Administration Supervisory Archivist in College Park, Maryland

Summary This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. The incumbent directs a specialized program of marked difficulty, responsibility, and national significance, managing the planning, coordination, controlling, and implementation of all archival functions pertaining to records in the custody of the Electronic Records Division in the Office of Research Services. Responsibilities As a Supervisory Archivist, you will: Direct the Electronic Records Division in the Office of Research Services, accessioning, processing, and reference service programs. Direct a program segment that performs technical, administrative, and professional work and manages the planning, coordinating, controlling, and implementation of all archival functions pertaining to records in the custody of the Electronic Records Division. Exercise delegated authority to oversee the overall planning, direction, and timely execution of a program, which is managed through separate subordinate organizational units, including development, assignment, and higher level clearance of goals and objectives for supervisors of subordinate organizational units or lower organizational levels. Be responsible for developing and maintaining professional relationships with the Records Management officials in other Federal agencies. Requirements Conditions of Employment The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. A one year probationary period may be required. A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Specialized Experience for the GS-15: You must have one year of experience at the GS-14 level, or equivalent in other public or private sections, that is directly related to the position as listed above and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Supervising or leading an archival electronic records program. AND Proposing and implementing solutions/strategies for program improvement to assure the continuing effectiveness of activities in support of an agency's mission. AND Collaborating and executing communication strategies, plans or policies to individuals. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F): For the GS-15, you must have been at the GS-14 level for 52 weeks. Education Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Individual Occupational Requirements:Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government. OR Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Evaluation of Experience: Professional experience must have been in archival science, or in a directly related field of work such as history that involved the collection, appraisal, analysis, or synthesis of information having historical or archival values. The following are illustrative of kinds of experience that may be accepted as meeting the professional experience requirements: (1) experience as an archivist in Federal, state, religious institution, business, or other archives, or in manuscript depositories, and (2) experience of an archival nature that involved research in archival science, or in a directly related field such as history, government, economics, political science, international relations, or international law.
