MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

An associate degree or higher from an accredited college or universityor

Six (6) months of experience in environmental protection, regulation, or health; one of the natural sciences; agriculture .

Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent of this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, FAC.

Occasional travel is required.

This position is a homebase headquarters position. The selected candidate must reside in Broward County by the first day of employment, and throughout employment in this position.

NOTES:

JOB DUTIES:

Assist and support short-term and long-term special projects designed to control, suppress and/or eradicate invasive or emerging structural, agricultural, and natural resource pests. Assess harm associated with the introduction of invasive or emerging pests and other special projects that will provide improved consumer education and protection. Maintains appropriate and accurate records of all project functions and assist with the development of field reports and data entry of all work performed.

Performs field site inspections and consumer interviews to obtain information in support of project success and effectiveness relative to invasive or emerging structural, agricultural, and natural resource pests, and other special projects. Monitors and surveys developed (residential) and undeveloped sites within the state for the detection and distribution of exotic invasive pests. Initiates and implements action to curtail the spread of various injurious pests.

Assists in the organization and participation in such projects as pest eradication projects and protocols within the state, including implementing integrated pest management chemical and/or biological controls. Proposes tactics to accomplish project goals related to assigned special project area.

Collaborates with other state, local, and federal agencies and knowledgeable professionals to assist in the development of outreach materials for professional entomologists, members of the pest control industry and the general public. Attends meetings and workshops and gives presentations to keep the public informed concerning department activities related to ongoing special projects.

Resolves consumer complaints, or when necessary, refers them to the proper agency.

Performs related work as directed by supervisor.

Performs all functions in support of activities related to Chapters 482 and 487, F.S., and associated rules, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
