ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:
The Manager, Electrical is responsible for the safe, efficient, profitable, and timely completion of all the electrical facets for locomotive work, maintenance, and day to day operations. The Manager ensures that production schedules are met and work is completed in accordance with quality specifications and safety standards as well as oversee electrical project planning and completion.
MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meet daily with the electrical team to discuss the day-to-day operations including prioritizing work and coordinating the tasks
Plans and supervises the work of APU, PBX electrical and HVAC maintenance
Provide product and troubleshooting support to internal/external customers as required
Assist in capital project planning
Adhere to departmental budget
Plan and oversee electrical building maintenance inspections and coordinate with Facilities to complete all necessary electrical issues/repairs of the northern facilities
Lead, coach and resolve any problems that the electricians may encounter
Ensure employees adhere to company policies and procedures including wearing of appropriate PPE
Monitor employee attendance and ensure concerns and issues are addressed accordingly
Supervise other trades as required occasionally
Investigate immediately all reported hazards, health and safety concerns, incidents, accidents, and rail occurrences
Identify the root cause(s) and complete root cause analysis for reported incidents and recommend solutions, corrective measures, or improvements
Follow up on all implemented control or corrective measures to ensure their effectiveness
Interact with project managers to determine project staffing requirements and resource leveling
Tour shops continually looking to ensure compliance with safety procedures/practices and address any issues with the employees as soon as possible
Monitor and respond to train operational requirements as required (24/7)
A/C and refrigeration consultation/repair recommendations
Provide accurate quoting of all electrical work for Request for Quote (RFQ) tenders, locomotive repairs, APU, PBX and HVAC maintenance, and traction motor builds
Monitor and respond to radio traffic and calls
Be fully informed on production status and provide detailed and accurate information to stakeholders
Actively gather and contribute to continuous improvements to increase efficiencies including inspiring staff to embrace a continuous improvement culture
Interact with Unifor Local 103 Unit 12 pertaining to provisions of the collective agreement
Complete daily observation requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Master Electrician License (309A or 442A)
5+ years’ experience in electrical (corrective, preventive, and structural maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, installation, lay out and planning)
5+ years’ experience in a Supervisory or Management role, providing leadership in a unionized environment
Experience in maintenance and day to day operations of APU electrical, PBX electrical and HVAC systems
Experience managing departmental resources and budgets
Good computer knowledge skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook
Reading, interpreting, and working from blueprints
Expertise in project planning and coordination
Ability to effectively communicate with all types of people, including trades and all levels of management
Knowledge of safety codes and demonstrated ability to work in a safety conscious manner
Familiarity with Unifor agreements an asset
Experience in rail is an asset
