Hamilton College Academic LMS and Applications Administrator in Clinton, New York

Hamilton College invites applications for the position of Academic LMS and Applications Administrator in Library and Information Technology Services (LITS). The Academic LMS and Applications Administrator provides the complete range of support for Hamilton’s LMS (Blackboard), including user support, faculty training, all aspects of system administration, and supporting integrations with Enterprise Information Systems (EIS), third-party extensions, and other Hamilton systems. In addition, this position will also provide support for other academic applications for the curriculum, including web page publishing, screen video capture, data archive, and web-based mapping software. This position is a member of the Research and Instructional Design (R&ID) Team where research and technology experts work together to support faculty and students with research and teaching. The R&ID Team provides an inclusive, respectful, and responsive service point, works collaboratively to meet exciting research challenges, supports learning communities, and introduces and facilitates the use of innovative technologies through consultation and instruction.

We are seeking a creative and organized individual who will collaborate with faculty, students, and staff in the integration of technologies to enhance the student learning experience; conduct instructional workshops, and advance innovative teaching and learning initiatives across the curriculum. This is an exempt position with a pay range of $58,490 - $65,000.

Responsibilities

Learning Management System Support

  • Actively participate in supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Hamilton Community.

  • Responsible for all aspects of system administration for Hamilton’s LMS (Blackboard Learn).

  • Provide all user support to Hamilton faculty, students, and staff.

  • Provide training as needed (including online documentation).

  • Review SIS integration daily and work with EIS to correct errors.

  • Report errors and implement solutions.

  • Support integrations with third-party tools, publishers, and other vendors.

  • Represent Hamilton at Blackboard Office Hours and other venues.

  • Keep up-to-date on periodic updates and reviews support notices.

  • Participate in Blackboard Community discussions.

  • Collaborate with R&ID and other teams in LITS to support Blackboard functions.

Academic Applications Support

  • Provide academic application support including in-classroom workshops for faculty in courses and student research as needed.

  • Support Academic applications including web page publishing, screen video capture, data archive, and web-based mapping software.

  • Develop, deliver, and assess relevant workshop offerings; and maintain appropriate resources on academic applications for faculty, students, and staff.

  • Keep abreast of emerging and innovative applications and their use for learning and the LMS.

  • Proactively identify needs for faculty applications; collaborates with other teams in LITS to support academic applications.

  • Provide exceptional technical support and customer service.

  • Works with research librarians, instructional designers and other members of R&ID.

  • Participate in the mentoring of the LITS Digital Media Tutors

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree and/or certifications in instructional design, computer science, etc. preferred.

  • Minimum three years’ experience in LMS administration (Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, Brightspace, or other LMS).

  • Experience/knowledge of Academic applications software and tools including web page publishing, screen video capture, data archive, and web-based mapping software, and keeping abreast of current and emerging trends.

  • Strong working knowledge of instructional design principles and learning theories.

  • Demonstrated facility for learning and applying new technologies.

  • Demonstrated experience assisting faculty, students, and staff to effectively use information and technology in traditional and blended learning environments.

  • Experience using a wide array of educational technologies.

  • Experience working effectively with a team to plan and complete projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations as well as demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.

  • Demonstrated ability and experience functioning successfully in a fast-paced environment with a strong service orientation.

  • Ability to work both independently as well as collegially and communicate effectively with colleagues, faculty, students, and staff.

  • Excellent problem solving, analytical/reasoning, and organizational skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of a wide range of information sources and technologies.

  • Strong teaching and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated aptitude for quickly learning new tools, skills, and technologies.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Curiosity about how technology is affecting research and teaching, and enthusiasm for collaboration with faculty, students, and staff in a liberal arts context.
